Your sales drops arent thay? :-)

I feel sorry for every webmaster that enters the bizz this year.
We are all fucked for the next 2 years, only the strong will survive, which means programs that knew how to save money when recession comes and programs with 1000's of affiliates.
Rest of you, hmmm like on the wall street, the NEW adult entertainment map will be written when the dust falls.

So lets share, hows your sales this year?
Double you work and shit? What if we already worked our as off momma?

I used to have 15-25 sales a day for the last couple of years, now Im at 5 and Im happy when I see those 5.

Im thinking things will get alot better just from economic confidence standpoint if Obama wins.

I still don't buy the "economy" thing when it comes to sales

used to be nearly broke horny 19 year old guys would still scrape together 6 bucks to buy a playboy mag

now they all just go to the tubes and wank it to the half hour free videos

Trust me wrong, people have borrowed lots of cash, how many years will it take until we have a credit nation again?

My profits for 2008 are about 15% (or 80k usd) down on 2007 numbers. I haven't worked that hard or innovated much so I'm happy with that.

It has nothing to do with economy.

Tube Sites are to blame. Why would anyone buy a membership when they can get nearly all kind of videos for free on tube sites.

We are fucked. And we are fucked by our own industry. How stupid can we be ?

You don't have the same traffic. Traffic is changing all the time, surfers are changing, if you don't, then what do you expect? To make the same amount year after year with no innovation?

p.s. Tube sites mean shit, but some people will love to blame their shitty results on them.

trust me it is the economy, my sales problems didn't hit until this past week

tubes don't have dick to do with shit....maybe 5%

people are hearing "no credit, running out of credit, banks not lending" and just not willing to use their credit card as easily right now

lets hope this economic package gets passed by mid week

The economy does have people scared. When you hear recession you don't get worried if you have a stable job and a savings account and a decent life. However, when your bank declares bankruptcy or goes under, people start getting scared and they start shoving their cash under their mattresses. I would imagine once the bailout hits, if things calm down in the next few weeks people will start to feel better again.

My sales are better than ever although I haven't been in this biz as long as a lot of you. If the industry is hurting I can't wait to see what they are like once the dust clears.

Yeah it's been a dismal few days and if anyone says otherwise I really think they are lying. I've been playing this game since 1999 so I think I know what I'm doing by now (ok, well sorta :D).

I've only been doing this for about 6 months now, and I've seen those drops.

Average day for me is between 5-8 sales and right now I'm looking at 3-4 sales a day which totally sucks. Luckily between that, some mainstream ventures and my writing company I still pull in enough to live.

But the way I see it, if I keep going now and get to a point where I'm making 10-15 sales a day with this economy, then when the economy rights itself (or whatever is going to happen, thats another thread) then I'll be able to make more money and it'll seem to be a lot easier then.

Either way it's not just me feeling the crunch I know everyone is for exactly the reasons pr0 said, people are more and more afraid to use their credit cards. Fuck man, people are probably calling their banks before driving over just to make sure they're still in business! So the money is unsure, and although people do have it they just don't want to be spending it now.

Anyone that's doing any volume has seen the drop in the past 3-4 days

It has nothing to do with tube sites etc.

I've been in the game since 99' as well....I'm right with ya buddy

Lets just all pray they get consumer confidence back on track.

This will be a huge ripple effect.

For instance about an hour ago i checked up on a campaign i had going with Ravo, which converted 6,000 clicks into several hundred bucks (huge paid traffic return) that im just "testing". I thought for a minute to hit him up & order $2500 in traffic....but then i backed off because sales are down across the board on my SEO traffic in the last 72 hours.

So the domino's will continue to fall until our lame ass govt gets people calmed down IMO.

About time a real webmaster put some real knowledge on the board. I am thinking the only way any confidence is coming back is if Obama wins unfortunatly. Going to war with Russia and Iran will not stimulate our economy and niether will staying in Iraq.

Yeah I really, really hope the bailout helps consumer confidence (even if it doesn't do much else)....our customers are definitely running scared right now. We're just trying to keep building like normal, even though our numbers are a bit demoralizing over the past few days.

I've been in mainstream for a while, but only in adult for 2 years. This August was about 5X what last August was, but I'm still growing so those numbers aren't really fair. Conversions are lower though without a doubt.

I do notice you have to niche deeper than when I started in order to get the same results. I wouldn't touch the big programs with a 10 foot pole right now and my stats agree.

The fuck of it, is that two weeks ago I was doing great with my main sponsor 1:80,

but they closed the program I was advertising, so I have been doing some conversion tests on some new cam/dating sponsors.. and I can't trust the outcome of the tests because of all the shit that has happened the past 5 days or so.

Everyone is definitely scared to put in their cc at the moment,

I guess I will have to complete the tests, because it's useless trying to get a test feel for conversion ratios at ANY sponsor right now

One thing I can do is go ahead and get my site built and ready though.

I think that is where we need to look to see the proper trend though, is the big programs. some niches will be immune, but there aren't enough of them to go around to support the "adult industry", and things like dating and cams need to be taken out of the equation as well, because they are anomalous when it comes to the broad scope of things (in other words I think there time may already be peaking even though up to now they have been pretty immune to the tube thing)

for the whole industry to be considered healthy, you have to look at the big programs and the general porn stats (not niches)

I'd agree with that. There are definitely not enough niche areas to support everyone.

As for the dating and cam sites, I feel those have peaked like you said. The dating sites I think can't really go on much further IMHO. I do feel if there are some technological improvements and the quality of cams go up, they could almost save the industry. Not sure where that would come from, but some new compression that makes cams look like tube site clips and they would really catch fire. More cam buyers mean more guys per room, which means the price would come down per minute. It could be huge. I see this as a big part of the future.

You should actually ask someone who has the raw data on dating sites whether or not they have "peaked" as you say.

With that said, I give them another 24 months till peak.

You are right on point (almost) with the cams comment though.

Very intelligent and progressive post,

my timing is unfortunate. I am looking for a new CAM/DATING sponsor to call home at the moment and it seems almost unfair to run conversion tests right now with any of them.. big or small.

Like you said as well, I think CAMS/DATING have peaked and they are going to start to feel the pain as well, but regardless of where the litmus test is taken be it big porn movie sponsors or big live cam sponsors ALL ratios are suffering right now in one way or the other in these areas, and your right it's not just the tube sites it's most definitely the economy.

Not so much the real economy even, just people being smart, ultra tight, and scared.

Still looking for a sponsor to call my home, almost done building my template site for testing

Don't sweat it. I don't push dating sites or know anybody close to them so my comment was just a gut feeling.

So the domino's will continue to fall until our lame ass govt gets people calmed down IMO.

I just come home with Hamids ride, it was far from limo ride I left my place with, I lost like $2,000 on black jack, and $1,000 on drinks, made a dozen friends, which I probably will never see again. So any appointments? While Im still in the Alice world?

I am doing "serious" biz since just 2008. My breakthrough came with the summer and I was very happy and satisfied. Things started to go bad during the Olympics, and even if I have had some decent days, the average is much lower than before [I have 25% lesser income in Sept than in Aug].
I don't blame tube sites, I simply think if they were real pain in the ass they would have been sued to death by content producers and bigger companies. I am a bit tired to hear everybody crying about these tube sites... Do you seriously think tube quality content can compete with (exclusive) HD videos?
I agree with pr0 and I blame ecomony (and election thing a bit). People in the States just watch more politics and care about their money more. Everything will be back to normal in some weeks, you'll see.
These happenings will scare away a lot of webmasters from the industry. Those who work hard and are innovative will stay alive and have more success than before.

Ecomony is the issue while sales are lower then normal. It's expected too with new goverment coming, ecomony the way it is. People are scared. Just like when the war started. But people came back.

This industry is up and down. It will bounce back, it might take a little more time this time around.

P.S. My sales are good. Google traffic is gold

for the whole industry to be considered healthy, you have to look at the big programs and the general porn stats (not niches)

I've seen drops in conversion the last week, maybe 2. Recession has everything to do with it
