I expect someone to start the first porn high def tube site soon. I was looking for clip sample on the new high def camera I got. (Sony EX1) and I found this high def tube site. Its pretty kick ass how long before this catches on with everyone and bandwidth allows this type of content. I would love to setup a paysite with this type of streaming it seems like the way to go.

Wow, I've never seen better looking video when looking at my LCD computer screen. If anyone was reselling content of that quality I'd buy. That would have a significant quality difference with the content of free tubes and IMO paysites' maximum video quality should be around that.

HD footage is great only when you use appropriate cine technics for your shoots - tripods, cranes, dollies, rails etc. Handheld shoots are all shaky mess even at SD resolution, at HD they're unbearable to watch.

HD footage is even better when using 35mm adapters, like this one for example:

Nice DOF, which you can't get with semiprofessional camcorders because of thier small martix sizes. But 35mm adapter gets the job done.

I use a steady cam 85% of the time tripod rest of time. Unless its a pov that just wont work except for handheld. I really don't see how Hd would show more shakiness than sd.

Sounds great. You belong to a small minority though, most just don't care and shoot handheld thinking it's OK because its porn, and all others are shooting same way.

Small cranes are the best for POVs. They're not a big deal bigger than tripods, but far more versitle.

Also Glidecam can do the job, not as smooth as stedicam, but better than handleld anyway. Also some of the more expensive tripods allow more flexiblity, you can shoot nice POVs with them - probably not all the POVs you want, but still quite a lot of possible angles.

I really don't see how Hd would show more shakiness than sd.

Because of higher resolution, that's obvious. Same camera movement will show more pixel shift at HD and will be more noticable.

Do you have Parkinson's syndrome? Handheld HD footage looks just fine if you have sufficient and expertly placed lighting.

No running and gunning involved if you are filming a gonzo porn movie with two people fucking on a bed or a couch. Just need a cameraman with a little experience and a steady hand. If I was filming a feature movie with dialog and people walking around various rooms while they were talking or interacting, or action sequences or other complex moves, I'd consider using more sophisticated tools like I have in the past.

That being said, your assertion that handheld HD footage doesn't look good unless one uses a jib or a tripod is ridiculous and the idea of using a small crane for a pov scene is as laughable as it is impractical in most cases. I would even make the argument that a experienced porn cameraman with a steady hand can get better, more fluid angles and more dynamic looking footage than any jib or crane, which, although they can be useful, are really very limited in the angles they offer.

Even those aspiring and imaginative kinds of movies require to at least introduce models to a viewer, camera shaking will be quite noticable at this point. When you get closer to models shakings will get less noticable, but they will still be there. Also when you run from one point to the other, camera movements will be quite noticable, no experience is going to make up for that. No matter the experience, handheld = shitty amateurish look of your footage and I just can't stand it.

Exactly. They're just doing it the easiest way, and since there's nothing else to buy, people buy. But porn has not always been all gonzo way. Older movies shot much more cinelike way were much better and smarter than what we get nowadays. And they also had their stellar titles and top producers/directors. But sadly the progress in technology led to degradation of the whole porn genre.

There's room in the market for all kinds of porn movies, including those with story lines and those with just simple fuck scenes. There's more porn overall and more good porn than ever nowadays catering to every fetish. I wouldn't obsess about the tools though, a talented director can make a strokeable sex scene with or without any particular special equipment.

To each his own, with that I agree. Not really much to my own taste recently though, unfortunately. 99.9% of the movies are either handheld/gonzo or never ending zooms, which I also hate.

The curse and the blessing of the porn genre is that no matter how badly a scene was shot, it is still jerkable and sellable. You cannot get away with it in mainstream, but in porn you can.
