Twisted Railroad Tracks (PICS)

Was driving in the Oregon Coast range and found these twisted up railroad tracks.

Thought the trestle in the background of the second pic would make for some neat shots too.

Thats pretty kick ass! I seen some crazy train tracks and old abandoned mines n shit all over her in oregon. Definitely has a scenic advantage to a photographer.

I worked railroad maintenance and construction fo rlike 4 years, been out to a few washouts in my day. It's kind of crazy how all the soil will wash away and leave the rails hanging out in the air with all the ties still clinging on for dear life.

Great pictures. Like somehow said, convenient that you happened to have a good loking girl with you, heh.

I wouldn't doubt if the tracks are still in use. They'll just be waiting for a bridge building crew to come in a fix shit up before they run a train on it. The ties aren't rotted, the railhead is hardly flattened out at all, bolts all look nice and tight, ballast is up to the tops of the ties with no grass growing through, most of the ties are still holing on tight to the flange, and the crossing planks and all right where they need to be. I'm guessing there used to be a bridge crossing the river right about the middle of the sagging spot? Looks like a pretty recent washout to me. I'm sure it won't stay hanging like that very long, there'll be a crew at work soon enough. Rail transport is big money, and they won't have it hanging like that for long. I'd say you come along right on time.

All very interesting. The tracks are very much suspended in mid air. I thought about walking out on them for some other pics but with my luck, that would not have worked out so well.

It turns out the wash out happened last spring. It took out the bridge you predicted as well.

What wooden panels? The crossing? I don't see any wood supporting anything. Son, don't argue me on this one, this is actually something I know. I'm CN Rules qualified, I can foreman a maintenance crew. That track is in FAR too good of condition to be "long since discontinued". My guess is spring runoff was heavy and eroded the out bank of the riverbend and a mudslide took out all the ground underneath the track. If too big a washout to simply replace the soil. they'll be waiting on a bridgecrew, which will take some time. Rail transport is in a boom right now with fuel price son the rise. Whoever owns that line is chomping at the bit to get it open again believe me. If it were long since discontinued, those rails would have been salvaged and sold by now. I've worked on reclamation jobs. What a 39foot section of 115lb rail in good condition sells for is ridiculous. Companies will fly helicopters into the middle of the boonies and pay millions to pull out unused track. They would have stripped that bitch right down to the bolt for reuse. Unless you consider long since when, like last spring. The spikes aren't even lifting any, the bolts are tight, that track has been well maintained up until recent times...

It's most likely the railway McCain's "Straight Talk Express" runs on. His ride seems to have a few bumps in it these days.

Those are some awesome pics. I really like the twisted tracks. Do they have any covered bridges up there? I always liked shots my Father would take of those type bridges.
We will definitely have to get up to Oregon.....there is a backdrop for just about anything

WTF would you know about accomplishing ANYTHING or photography?

EXIF file to the right. MANUAL exposure, and custom white balance.

And before you stick your other deadbeat foot in your mouth, yes, I have the EXIF files for the other shots too and none of them were shot in auto mode.

Fucking idiot, go pretend to do something useful.

Thanks Nikki, I'll be sure to tell her.

Yes, there are a few covered bridges in Oregon.

Those are some awesome pics. I really like the twisted tracks. Do they have any covered bridges up there? I always liked shots my Father would take of those type bridges.
We will definitely have to get up to Oregon.....there is a backdrop for just about anything
I think Oregon is the covered bridge capital of the world

Quite a few old historical bridges here - along with many many more historical buildings and such.

Oregon is full of green and history.

And before you stick your other deadbeat foot in your mouth, yes, I have the EXIF files for the other shots too and none of them were shot in auto mode.

Fucking idiot, go pretend to do something useful.
PHOTOSHOP!!!! I know it!!!
