Major FireFox error with 3.0.1 - Gasp!!! Security pros, please help...
So once a week I do a full cleaning of my system. Wipe all private data, defrag, you name it.
Enter Firefox 3.0.1. I do the install and go to type in a website and low and behold it shows sites I've visited in the URL bar drop down from NINE MONTHS!!! I just shit my pants when I saw it pulled up the US Embassy site in Jakarta that was last looked at in January of 2008!!! There are lots of others sites it pulled out of its ass that should not be there anymore. How is this even possible? I clear my private data including sites I have visited, I run CCleaner once a week, defrag... clear everything I can find. Been doing that all of this time, yet FF 3.0.1 pulls it all back!!! That just goes to show you that your private data never really leaves your system. ![]() Help! |

Press Ctrl-Shift-Delete.
Read the checkboxes. Press the buttons. Then, go Edit -> Preferences, Privacy. There is no spoon. FF3 changed from the old 'bookmarks' format to a more custom XML format for even the bookmarks; practical upshot is that worthless software is even more worthless now.

If your on XP there is one way it is possible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index.dat http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=P...Index.datSuite This is probably not the reason... but something many people overlook. That shit keeps URLs from the time the OS was INSTALLED. EDIT: BTW I know it only keeps URLS visited in IE, but its somthing many people still overlook when it comes to privacy.

It's called the awesome bar, and once you get use to it... it's awesome. Check your bookmarks. It uses them, plus it pulls up stuff based on your usual browsing. Once I run the clear history in FF then it will only pull up bookmarks again (until I start browsing again). CCleaner doesn't clean your browser history - only the cache. LOL Defrag doesn't do either.

I think think what you say about the "awesome bar" is it. Now that I look at them, they are bookmarks from shit I bookmarked way back. It's just showing it as a URL and trying to help. heh. Do you know how to turn off the awesome bar? Yea I know CCleaner and defrag does not clean browser history, I was just meaning I do full maintenance once a week on my system so nothing should be saved anywhere. |

Just google "turn off awesome bar" and some things should come up, but I suggest leaving it on for a few days. I didn't like it at first, but within 2 or 3 days I realized I couldn't live without it now. It makes it SO easy to get to things. Like, lets say I want to get to my solo girl's diary to see what's she's written. All I do is type "di" and up pops http://www.michellelynn.com/diary/ as the first choice (since it's my most visited "di" site). Just be sure to not let your mom use your laptop.... yikes!
