Oprah is a talk show host. Not a politician.

Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!

Oprah's staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

"Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama."

One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech.

Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.

Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment.

Developing...
Oprah is not a sell out.
She didnt do Clearence THomas either as pointed out in that. It is more about her political views more than the money. Oprah has made a wise decision if ya ask me. Think I will have to watch her show now.

ABout time the Liberal base raises a hand and say's STFU to Conservatives.
Oprah is a core liberal, putting Palin on the show would do nothing but bolster Republican support and mislead house wives to believe Palin is some sort of Liberal when she is anything but a liberal.

Media is supposed to be unbiased and the Church is supposed to be separate from politics.

I agree with this idea.

However, being a Conservative does not mean you aren't a Liberal. They are two totally different things that the right tries to merge into one due to personal stupidity.

I'm very Conservative when it comes to the Gov. I actually don't see how anyone could be anything but Conservative, it's how you run a business, it makes total logic.

Being Liberal, is a personal thing, not a Gov view it's a state level thing. I'm personally Liberal and think people should be allowed more Liberal rights.

Savage ranks #1 on personal stupidly calling Liberalism a mental disorder. Just the title alone yells volumes at how disillusioned the right can really be on such a basic subject. To these people, if you don't agree on abortion (ie: all views), you are left ie: liberal. Even if all other views are right, that's the real mental disorder going on.

Don't let the words fool you. It's okay to be a Conservative Liberal. Wanting a small gov, with less control, more power to the state, to help individual rights. I feel that is the basic idea of our Country.

Ok so first Obama is done because you liked McCain's speech...and now Oprah, a woman who has a higher net worth than alot of countries in the world, is supposedly done because she doesn't want to book Palin?

So basically everyone you don't like or disagree with is "done"?

Anymore bullshit you would like to spew?
Actually both McCain and Palin drew in more viewers.

Palin had just over 40 million.

An audience of 37.2 million people watched Palin on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC, Nielsen Media Research said Thursday. PBS estimated its audience at 3.9 million, based on a less reliable sample of several big cities. Nielsen does not count the audience for C-SPAN, which also showed the speech.

Last week, Nielsen said 38.4 million people watched Obama speak at a Denver stadium on the six commercial networks, along with BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo - four networks that didn't cover Palin's speech. PBS added an estimated 4 million to that total.

Palin - 37.2 + 3.9 = 41.1 Million viewers.

Sen. McCain?s speech ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share - 38.9 million viewers.
Sen. Obama?s speech ended the night with a 4.3 rating/7 share - 38.3 million viewers.

PBS has already predicted there number for McCain will be around 2.5 million, that bring the number up to 41.4 million viewers.

Someone has to ask the question of why cant Barack Hussein Obama seal the deal and why didnt the DNC get the 8-12 pts jump in the polls that was predicted.

McCain's speech drew more without the PBS estimate. Obama's drew more than Palin's by your own numbers.

Without the PBS estimate
http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/...aking-ratings/

Obama: 38.3 million
McCain: 38.9 million

With the PBS esimate you cited, Obama would come out on top:

Palin: 37.2 + 3.9 = 41.1 million
Obama: 38.3 + 4.0 = 42.3 million
McCain: 38.9 + 2.5 = 41.4 million

Obama can't seal the deal because he's a new face and people are rightfully apprehensive about a guy they know little about, has had questionable associations, whom 12% of voters still believes he's Muslim, and who doesn't have the long history and experience which would be ideal. The hard fought primaries and disaffected Clinton supporters probably play a role as well.

From what I recall, the DNC did give him a 10 point boost but this was muted by Palin which gave McCain an 8 point boost effectively keeping the gap identical.

I'm sure once Nielsen and PBS come out with the official numbers which will be a few days away it will show the RNC > DNC. Until then ill stick with the good RNC numbers im seeing.

Barack Hussein Obama has had 4 uninterrupted years to seal the deal, if he cant get it done by now he never will. The overall DNC point jump was only by 5, almost everyone predicted it would be between 8-12 and hold steady for at least a week.

What if.... What if.... almost the same amount of people, a major group of the same people, all watched Obama, Palin, and McCain. It's very possible.

I know myself, Kristin and both sets of parents watched all 3 as well. Myself and Kristin watched all three online, so we aren't part of the numbers above but did watch. I watched Bidin on YouTube the day after he spoke. I skipped anything that had Clinton on the end of it.

Out of everything all three of them said. I remember one thing McCain said: Fight, fight fight, fight for this, fight for that, fight for country, stand up and fight, stand up stand up, fight fight fight. We are Americans, we never give up, we never quit, we never hide from history we make history!

I'm sure the Majority of those 40ish million people, know exactly what that means for America.

McCain Tops Obama?s Record-Breaking Ratings
September 5th, 2008 Posted in Media & Entertainment, Nielsen News, Politics

On Thursday night, John McCain?s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention bested Barack Obama?s record-breaking viewership numbers from last week by 500,000 viewers.

More than 38.9 million people tuned in to coverage of the final night of the GOP convention. In comparison, Obama?s acceptance speech at the Democratic convention drew 38.4 million viewers.

For the third night in a row, more women (19.2 million) than men (17.9 million) watched the RNC coverage. Still, McCain?s speech drew significantly more men than Obama?s acceptance speech (16.2 million). In contrast, Obama drew more women (19.9 million) than McCain (19.2 million).

White viewers also flocked to their TV?s for McCain?s speech (32.2 million vs. 27 million for Obama). But among African Americans, the reverse was true: 7.5 million African Americans watched Obama?s speech last week, while just 3.1 million tuned in for McCain?s speech.

If the numbers for the RNC are more than the DNC it's probably because many Republicans can't bring themselves to watch the DNC without having a fit, while Dems will tune into the RNC for a chuckle.

I'm confused. Do I vote for the guy who gets the most TV ratings now? Or do I vote for the speechwriters? The ones that actually write the speeches instead of the candidates? What's percentage of our political system is currently based on the issues? Things like; economy, defense, taxes, abortion, gay marriage, guns, health care, government spending, patriot act, supreme court justices, etc...

How can I support my current President if I vote for McCain, when in 2000 they told me that McCain was a bad choice? You remember, stuff like; McCain is gay. Cindy is a drunk. McCain has a bad temper and a loose screw. He'll cause a nuclear war. McCain has a daughter from a black prostitute.

I just can't vote for McCain. I don't want to let President Bush down.

Let's let the votes speak. TV ratings aren't what presidents are elected with. I wonder if republicans realize that a lot of the viewers have to do with the kickoff of the NFL coinciding with McCain's speech.

The only reason they had my viewership tally was because I forgot to turn off the TV in my living room. The same can be said for sports bars serving drink specials after the game that were too busy to change the channels, etc.

As far as democrats not gaining more points than they did, at least they had a surge after the convention. Mccain only gained 1%. The difference is, Obama is working to take votes from McCain, while Mccain is fighting not to lose his current supporters. That is big difference between the 2.

i don't usually remark on this topic but.... I have always thought that Oprah was a fake. giving money to schools elsewhere but not to the very people in America and our kids who helped her become the 'star' she is. So many examples, too little time to write them all.

and to be honest, she is a terrible interviewer. her brand is what keeps her going. I never cared for her. She is not real. never was.

Palin, she is one feisty woman who I think saved the Republican ticket. I never watch the RNC or DNC stuff, but I did this time and man-she rocked!

Where do you get your information?

Obama's speech was seen by 38+ million (Sarah's was 37 million and I'm sure most of those were hoping they'd see the culmination of the train wreck she is).

I think you meant to say more viewers than Biden but even that's not surprising. I didn't even watch his.

Let me clear mine out of the way. I heard him say fight for rights, schools, children, ect social aspects, and we should fight for those - duh. I also heard him say defense, the people that attacked us, war, and we don't back down, we don't stop... ect.

It spoke volumes to me. He plans to fight for all types of things, including more war, clearly he thinks Russia is a problem, we already know about Iran, and Iraq.

What else did he mean?

ABout time the Liberal base raises a hand and say's STFU to Conservatives.
Oprah is a core liberal, putting Palin on the show would do nothing but bolster Republican support and mislead house wives to believe Palin is some sort of Liberal when she is anything but a liberal.

I don't think Suzie Q Homemaker watches Oprah under the guise that its a conservative or liberal slanted show, so I fail to see how having Palin on would send some sort of message to the bon bon eating crowd that Palin is a liberal

Thanks for pointing out the flaw in the Nielsen rating system.

Like all the polls, etc...Nielsen is just a sampling of the population and when numbers are as close as they are, it's hard to say who the clear winner is and WHY people were watching. Palin had truckloads of viewers because nobody knows about her, and I'm sure many men with a MILF fetish watched it to fap.

Do you really believe that the lead in from the NFL season opener didn't help it at all? Come on... Most people after a game, leave their TV's on while they drink with the boys.

The interesting part would be to see what the difference was between the 2 NBC ratings.

Regardless, who gives a rats ass. In November, we'll all see who the winner is, and we'll proceed to hear half the country bitch either way about how bad the president is.

No, baddog lieberman is 100% right. You're the only one in the country who ever leaves their TV on after a show. Duh!

I thought I saw that the game was on at the same time as the speech.

I would think the sponsors would not give a flying fuck since McCain won't let Palin do ANY interviews with anyone before the election is over.

This is where I think we disagree. You think he wants more war. I think he knows war and wants to avoid it if possible.

This is a major problem I have with Obama. I don't think someone with no military experience truly understands, and I really have a problem putting someone like that as the Commander-in-Chief of our military.

You liked John Edwards as a Presidential candidate if I remember. He has no military experience.

I liked him because I felt he was more electable than Obama or Clinton. Is it my fault that the Democrats give so little in the way of options?

While Officers are trained in military battle tactics, much like the Combat guy learns those tactics on the ground directly, neither know each others tactics. Being in the Military, unless maybe you were a General that did these types of things, I don't think you are going to "really" get anyone qualified to lead our entire country into war.

They all have advisers, round tables of lots of people and if done legally - congress and the support of the entire Country.

Obama wants to go after Iran as well. In fact, last night I heard he voted 85/85 times with Bush on matters concerning Iraq.

baddog you are an old white man..

99% of your "kind" are racist fucks... we know you dont want OBAMA cuz he is black.. quit with the BS about not sure about war, etc.. Obama's IQ is in triple digits.. MCcain is in double digits..

Im tired of people making excuses. ITS OK to be a racist old white fuck, 99% of you old white men are anyway..

Why anyone will leave their party and go vote for other party is beyond me..

Democratic ideals and republican ideals are completely opposite.. Any democrat shouldnt even be debating about what party to vote for..

ehh i give up

I got your point, you think a man that was in the military has experience over a man that has none. And I was saying, it doesn't make a difference because everything is fed to them, from the tactics, to when and how.

It takes a smart man that can see the entire picture, help guide and plan but listens to the people that specialize in the art of war. I really think both, can do the job equally as well.

McCain probably would have an edge with dealing with upper military, moving military, ect. But yesterdays war tactics are very different from todays - both will have to learn a lot.

More U.S. funded/backed Wars isn't going to help a damn thing. We need world support, we need world peace. We need to stop what we are doing before we can't fight anymore.

We are wide open to attack from anyone right now, we are more unprotected than ever!

We have to try diplomacy, we have to use world diplomacy, and use war as an absolute last resort. We started in a good path quickly abused our global power.

I'm for who is going to stop that abuse. Ron Paul! hehe..

and to be honest, she is a terrible interviewer. her brand is what keeps her going. I never cared for her. She is not real. never was.

Palin, she is one feisty woman who I think saved the Republican ticket. I never watch the RNC or DNC stuff, but I did this time and man-she rocked!
everyone has there own opinion of others but you dont have the entire picture. Oprah did offer money to US school "FIRST" but when she asked the students what they wanted she got responses like "ipods" and "digital cams" so she decided to give her money to kids that would appericate it more.

If I had oprah's money i'd do the same, most Americans are ungrateful no matter what you try to do there is always a majority of ungrateful people wanting more or saying you haven't done enough.

yup true that.. im african AND american.. parents african, but was born here.. and you are 100% correct..

I go to Africa once in a while and people are JUST way more grateful... You could give someone a loaf of bread and they'll thank you OVER and OVER and thank you everyday.. give an american a loaf of bread..

yeah i know its the conditions there but still... i would rather help some africans too
