The $2K Project

In about 2 weeks I will be borrowing $2,000 dollars. (Why am I waiting roughly 2 weeks? Simple - my bank is offering a lower APR as a special starting on July 25th.)

Now, I'm new but not... moronic 'I wanna make teh millions sellin pron!~!" new. I've been researching this business venture for a long time now, and now it's time to put that research into action.

I figure whatever your opinion of newbies is, this should be an entertaining thread. If you're a newbie as well, you'll see what's possible when you take a little risk and research what you're doing and who you're working with. If you've been in the game for a while and like seeing newbies come up, this can give you a possible business partner for the future. And, lastly - if you've been in the game and generally hate newbies... well, you just might get to see one put themself 2K in debt.

Now, 2K may not seem like a lot to most of you... well, correction: some of you. I'm talking dollars, not post count... after lurking for a year or so I get the feeling a lot of people here talk a lot of shit without the bank accounts or business skills to back it up. Anyway, 2K is a good bit of money to me, considering I'm a college student currently working a dead-end job for $7 an hour... which ends up being something like $5.50 after taxes. So, making this 2K will take me... around 363 of work if I put every dime I make towards paying it back. So, is it a huge risk? No... If there's ever a time to put yourself in debt, it's when you're 20. But it's a risk none the less.

I'll bookmark this thread and bump it when things get under way. I'll be posting my initial costs, the traffic I generate and purchase, the productivity of said traffic, the sponsors I use, the conversion ratios I get, the designer(s) I use, the amount of money I make, and the profit or loss at 30 and 60 days.

Succeed or fail, everything will be here to see.

Comments are welcome... however I already know which sites I'll be promoting and where I'll be buying traffic and who I'll be contacting for design. So, no sex.com affiliates need bother, nobody needs to whore themselves and their refferal ID, and I don't need to see any design portfolios. Chances are, I've read about your traffic, looked at your portfolio, and know what sites your current sponsor has. Wait....what am I thinking? Whore away and bump my thread for me. Hate away if you'd like - but everyone here was in my position (maybe not borrowing cash, but being new) at one point or another.. unless you had someone take you by the hand.

I didn't say what I'll be doing yet. All i basically said was that I'll be promoting sites, buying traffic, and using a designer. I honestly don't mind starting small, I'm in this for the long haul, not some quick buck.

Thanks for wishin me luck

good luck with your venture. $2,000 on traffic bought from TGP's will burn away quickly...that won't sustain much.

at 20 i was able to get a $20,000 dollar loan.

Well, if that's true - I wish I was in the same position you were at 20. Unless of course you're talking about a student loan... I deffinitely have more than 2K in those.

never took out a student loan for college

you should just get a nice design for your site and learn to increase traffic without paying cash...it's possible to gain traffic for free without paying anyone.

2k isn't a lot, nope. But many people make it on zero investment so 2k is going to put you that much further.

I just hope you have done or will do a lot of research and not throw that 2k in the garbage...there are a lot of things new website owners pay for that are totally unnecessary.

Again, good luck and please don't hesitate to seek much advice and ask loads of questions you will thank yourself and everyone for it later!!

Damn, whish I could say the same. I did pretty well on the SAT's so a local school kind of threw money at me as far as scholarships go, but... when the total starts at 14 grand a semester, I still havta borrow some to get through. Thankfully not as much as a few of my friends.

FYI - I started with $0.00, and had to sell my one and only mainstream site for $3k to become "not homeless". Put three months down for rent (first, last, security) on a house & bought car insurance. I was left with nothing but 30-days to find some revenue stream. So in the meantime I worked my ass off, finally brokered a great domain, took that little bit of cash, and now with 30+ biz deals, and 10 sites under my belt - I have six figures in capital and three figures daily in residual income.

Mind you this is all within a 16-month period, and that I am younger than you Halo. So definitely - Anything is possible, regardless of budget. Ambition, determination, and a business mentality will always outweigh inherited "mommas boy, daddys trust fund" finances.

I wouldn't start off buying traffic....
Milk everything you can for free....

Get a designer who is decent and get them to do a basic archive design for a movie archive and mgp galleries... http://www.buildporn.com ($300 or so)

use variations of it on
adult bouncer
deluxepass
janswebring
pornaccess
ars champs and any other archive type aens
do half str8t niche, half gay niche

Get webmasterlabor to do daily MGP submits for you. ($360) rotate between your archives... so you always have fresh content to submit to mgps....

You do daily TGP submits, AVS and Link List submits. (chameleon $20/mo) (AVS Wizard ($100 one time)

For AVS use proadult, freenetpass, freeagecard and sexkey, mansites, ugas, and globalmalepass.

Have two hubs a tgp hub for all your mgp/tgp galleries and a link list hub. Use TTT php (free) and AGSQL ($65) for the mgp and Gossamer Threads (free) and TTT PHP for the link list.

That rat there is a good ass plan

I just wanna take a sec to thank everyone who's had something encouraging to say. Stuff like that is part of what's going to keep me motivated. To the few who were laughing at 2K... well, congrats... in the event that I do go somewhere, you just lost a possible future partner.

When I was 20, my dad has to co-sign on my loans still. When I was 23, my credit was good enough to get a house loan and new car loans on my own. Good luck.

No, not at all man. I am not the typical GFY user, looking to bash others intentionally, in efforts of overcompensating for my own lack of self worth. That statement was a generalization targeted at kids of privelaged families, who never risk a dollar. And when they do, and fail - Daddy lifts them back up, washes away the failure, and allow this cycle to continue. So long post short, not directed at anyone in this thread. Directed at a social class, encompassing our fine society.

Yup, thats the boat I've been in and I'm so, so sick of it. The one thing I truely love doing is art... but what are the chances of making good money painting? The term "starving artist" didn't come without a base in reality. So what could I do? Keep cutting meat for shitty money for the rest of my life? Fuck that. I need a way out, and I decided over a year ago this is what I want to do. Countless amounts of reading later - I'm ready to make a serious start.
