Did you watch Barack Obama speak?

Very well done.

Articulation is something he possesses massive quantities of.

Brilliant planning on behalf of the DNC and Obama's camp to have his speech delivered on the anniversary of the MLK "I have a dream" speech. Considering that Obama is a Harvard grad in law with his focus in civil rights, that was just a brilliant move.

McCains only attack will be the Commander In Chief stance.

I'm actually enjoying watching this stuff for once.

He is an incredible orator. I will be interested in watching the debates, and that is a first for me, as I have never crossed party lines on a national level.

He did a great job..

He covered the major issues, he gave his idea about the issues, the game plan on them and then how he plans on getting the money or freeing it up. And I love how he didn't skip over the war stuff, he attacked head on what the real problem is and that the wars are different.

I can't wait until the debates.

simply amazing!!

Can you imagine him not being elected as president?

Imagine the entire world watching this whole thing ... and then the US elects Mcaine... can you imagine that? Imagine how that would make us look

I think the world would lose the last bit of respect it has for what it means to be America

I agree.

I loved the parts where he put faces to things like seeing his mother when he looked at a college student, etc. That helped give him the everyman touch.

I also liked the common ground aspects of it...the section where he talked about the things we maybe didn't agree on, but our strength is in what we do agree on.

This will probably get me laughed at, but I think there are echos of Ronald Regan in him as a speaker.

And that ain't a bad thing.

Have to give credit where it's due. The DNC was flawless - like a perfectly run relay race with Obama as anchor.

it was a SOLID acceptance speech - NOT anywhere near amazing. the setting was pretty spectacular.

the symbolism of a young black family standing on that stage - that is amazing - something even 20 years ago not thought possible. they are a very attractive family.

the sad thing about this election is we will never know whether he lost it because of his color - nobody is going to admit that to a pollster.

in the end his color is going to doom him - i talked to an 18 year old female American today, asked her if she was going to vote for Obama - her reply was 'no he's black' as if it was a ridiculous question to even ask.

that's just stupidity and ignorance to call either Barack Obama or John McClain a clown.

Regardless of who you are choosing for president, all should be thankful that a girl like this would be lucky to even find the polling booth, let alone on the correct day, and then be able to figure out the correct vote....

Ugh...

You are being bamboozled. He speaks as well as any Baptist minister in the south... pomp and fluff to fill the pews.

Obama is no Reagan. There is not one substantive comparison that can be made between the two.

I complete agree

If she made a statement like that.... she should not be allowed to breathe.

hopefuly her breathing will stop in the new future and spare the world or such ignorant statements

when you see her again, ask her if she has ever wondered how relaxing eternal sleep could be .... then post her picture and home address

Too funny. He will not lose the race because of color... he will lose the race because of lack of qualifications. Wait for the debates to make this real clear. That one he did a couple weeks ago in California was horrible.

The problem with Socialists is they can pretty up their plans in a speech but when it comes down to hammering them for their true intentions they can not tell the truth because no one would vote for them.

What I found amazing was the people in the crowd tonight cheering for more war... I sat there in amazement saying to myself, "All these people need to do is listen to his speech and he is telling you what he plans to do... listen closely".

obama said (paraphrasing), "continue to protect Israel and keep Iran from getting nuclear capabilities while fighting off "Russian aggression" and preparing for "all future conflicts"."

Let us not forget the Democrat party has always been the party of war... so he will merely be picking up the baton and running with it.

Before the children on here say, "WTF are you talking about!! Democrats hate war!"

WWI -> Wilson (D)
WWII -> FDR (D)
Korea -> Truman (D)
Vietnam -> JFK (D) LBJ (D) ended by: Nixon
Kosovo -> Clinton(D)
IRAQ -> BUSH 1 & 2 (R)

Democrats love a good war... as long as it is theirs.

he made a big point that the Democrats are not afraid of war, never have been and aren't now - what he said was that when he sends a soldier to war it will be for the right reasons i.e. Afghanistan yes Iraq no

as I said - because of the race issue we will NEVER know if he lost because of color or his lack of qualifications. simply because NOBODY will ever admit that race played a part in their voting decision. he may very well lose for that very reason - but because he is the first black man running for president there will always be the unaccounted factor of race.

Well lets be clear that when he does lose the "race pimps" and the Democrats will shout from the rooftops that it was race. Ignoring the facts... as usual.

If there is one thing the Democrats have no problems drilling for.... it is racism. When supplies are waning... they drill for more ;)

In all honestly Mutt, I disagree with this. The numer of people that WILL vote for him becaue of the color of his skin is substantial. Most voters are more concerned with their pocket books than the color of the presidents skin....

Good post.

Mutt - Check out the voting results in the primaries. He swept the black voters.... voting solely on race. This did not happen with the whites. Whites landslided him to victory in many states when racism should indicate Hillary should have won based solely on the delusion racism is going to keep him from winning.

Do not say, "Well that is because it was Democrats... They do not see color.". Democrats are the kings and queens of "victim" and "identity" politics.

Obama is going to embarrass McCain and everyone that thought he would lose. Not only will he win, he will win big.

I will not outright disagree with you as it is still early... but you are making a bunch of wildass (dream world) assumptions.

You have no clue who McCain is choosing for VP... If he picks a woman the race is over. He will win that day.

You have no clue how he will do in the debates. He sucked in the most recent one.

You are also ignoring that he lost a 15 point margin in the polls in 2 weeks.

By ignoring all of the above, you are setting yourself up for a major let down... that you will probably blame on racism... so it is all cool anyways.

You should be retired after November. McCain is a huge underdog at http://www.intrade.com. Just go throw all your money on him and you'll be rich!

Except you're dead ass wrong and McCain will get slaughtered.

Mondale/Ferraro -> In The Bag
Dukakis/Bentson -> In The Bag
Gore/Lieberman -> In The Bag
Kerry/Edwards -> In The Bag
Obama/Biden -> In The Bag

Seeing a pattern?

The video montage that told his story was pretty well done.

I was worried about the setting as it was made well before the attacks on him as being a "celebrity" but they filmed it tight so it never looked overwhelming. Although the fireworks at the end seemed over the top.

My only question is, say he wins, can he live up to the promise? Can any man? Business and greed are so entrenched in government that I wonder if no matter what he achieves, it will be a let down.

Believe it or not, he still has a very uphill battle, but if he pulls it out I will have hope for America, not because of him, but because it will show people have learned from the past and are ready to start something new and put that post 9-11 fear mongering behind us the same way the Germans did post WW2.

McCain actually put out a classy ad today congratulating Obama. He said something like "We'll go back at it tomorrow, but tonight, job well done" referring to being the first black nominee.

I think alot of people will be disappointed after a while... The US is not a dictatorship - it still have a congress where most things are decided + there is no easy/quick fix for the major problems. Also from what I have seen then some voters have projected all kinds of things Obama will do, which is not even included in his politics or national/presidential issues.

Doesn´t mean I think McCain is the better choice - just that cynicism is a likely outcome if high expectations are not fulfilled.

I wrote a big ass reply that addressed each of your points, gfy ate it. I will just say that not only are you wrong I'm afraid you are quite dented in the head.

Too much glitz and glamour with no substance.

He claims he'd lower taxes for middle america, yet as senator he voted 94 times to raise taxes..

$150 billion to invest into alternative energy? That money has to come from somewhere.
Increase military spending? That money needs to come from somewhere.

He also outright lied.. He claims he would uphold the second amendment, yet his entire political career he's been 100% anti gun.

Also, keep in mind the potential of war with Iran. The US has slightly under 3 million combined armed forces while Iran has 12.5 million. Obama made it very clear that he wouldn't hesitate.

David, thank godness Obama is not a Reagan. If he was we would be trouble.

I already read your other posts and I am in awe. Your views are extreme and seems off of what the majority of this industry is all about, freedom from bureaucracy and a change in right wing policy.

I watched the speech tonight and I was happy and pretty impressed.
He was to the point and he addressed the main criticisms from the Republican party with a fair ease. He also addressed the main concerns of the American people in terms of social politics and made enough good points to hold up his candidacy as a true Presidential candidate and Commander in Chief. The Democratic party showed that we are all one and not a divided people just because of race. I think we should be proud of that fact.

His qualifications to become a President for the PEOPLE was clearly exhibited in the history of his LIFE as an American and should not be questioned. If you or anyone here on the board have a better qualification then please stand up (stay away AlienQ), and I truly believe that very few others in the senate have had a better grasp on what is really going on in the "regular" life of the American people than that of Obama at this point in time.

To be honest David, I think you are afraid of what happened today in the speech and that you want to do as much as you can to discredit what will evidently become one of the best speeches made by a Presidential candidate ever. Good luck in November.

To add to all this, I have some experience myself from being a mix between an American and someone from the EU (passports in both regions, and also spend a lot of time in both places) - MOST people from the EU are afraid of Bush and the Republican party. It is a fact and it is sad. If Obama wins I believe it will show the rest of the world that we (the USA) is not a bunch of idiots but someone that truly believe that change can be made with the right choice in the upcoming election.

My views are extreme because they do not align with your world view. You see the world from your perspective and all else is "extreme".

Afraid? Life goes on... regardless of who wins. Fear is for the weak. Ignorance of realities and blind worship of messiahs has caused more problems than spirited debate. I will assume you are embellishing your opinion of tonight's speech to prove a point. Surely you have read the great speeches of this nation since its founding... or read the simple writings of hick farmers in the Federalist Papers?

I too have spent considerable time outside of the US and I too hold EU citizenship (ouch - did not expect that one did you?). You are making gross generalizations about MOST people in Europe... or you choose to associate with people of the same mindset so it reinforces your own viewpoint... feedback loops. I could reverse your statement and say, "Most people I speak to in Europe agree with the viewpoints I hold"... We probably frequent different countries and associate with different people. Swings and Round-abouts my friend and generalizations are just that... generalizations.

We will agree to disagree.

I took that line from the Republican party. My apologies.

I did not. Good one Which one is that? Do not tell me you are a Norwegian like myself! LOL

Typically I have been labeled as a "snob" my whole life and not that of a "democrat or liberal". So I guess my mindset has been set during my adult life. I do, admittedly, mingle with mostly people with the same mindset, however, some of my best friends are avid Republicans and we have many heated discussions on politics all the time. The best ones are while sharing a bottle of Cabernet or a 40. Whichever one we prefer at the time.

PS. Read my comments in BOLD as I am too tired to figure out the quote part. Gnight and THANK GOD CHANGE WILL COME SOON.

Heated discussed/debate is a good thing... Diplomacy should always be the first choice... not the choice of last resort. I think the large problem is you have not had a chance to share a 40oz or a fine magnum of champagne with me so your assumptions are overriding the reality of the situation. You might just find I am one of the most "extreme" freedom loving person you have met. To which I will accept the title of "extremist". The audacity of Liberty (big L) we will call it.
