Can anyone recommend a reliable laptop?

This HP one sucks so back that I never want to buy another HP product again... I can't wait to toss this one like a Frisbee off of my roof (9 stories) into the junk yard behind my building after beating it with an ax and torching the hard drive. I just wish it could actually feel the pain.

I bought this piece of shit Pavillion dv2000 a little over a year ago and it sucks donkey nuts. After fucking up every now and then the harddrive took a shit in less than 9 months and the bastards at hp didn't send me the box to send them for repair until weeks later after sending it to the wrong apartment twice and my dickface neighbors not telling me shit. Stupid indian whores on the phone couldn't understand shit I said. When I finally get the god damn box and send it to them for repair they say they can't find what they need to fix it... each date they say they will send it I call them and it's he same excuse of not having the right piece. I finally get the shit back like a month later and now the hardrive is about to take another shit because the freaking laptop is doing the same stupid shit it started doing the first time right before it died.

Fuck HP!

Macbook Pro. I had several laptops before and was never satisfied. Now that I got the Macbook Pro, I use it everyday and it even replaced my main pc tower =)

Not sure if you have one (and it won't help now), but when you get a new laptop the best thing you could ever buy is a laptop cooler. It plugs into the usb port and has a couple fans in it and sits under your laptop. They're like $15-$30, and makes my laptop feel as cool as when it's off. Even if it's been on for hours and hours. Ice cold. Before I used it my laptop got extremely hot. Like fry your motherboard or hard drive hot.

MacBook

Depending on the use you make of it. I have a standard 17" MacBook, I use it only when I travel since I already have a MacPro Tower here as main computer... If you intend to use it more than I do, then the MacBook Pro is your best choice...

Yes you will have a small learning curve with the system, but hey Microsoft is trying hard to copy Mac Oses for years so you won't be too lost

I had an HP for 4 years and the only issue I had with it, was the power supply plug went out on me.

Now I have a Dell.

HP is canvasing hard through tech seminars across the US and LAC to change a reputation problem that started a few years ago.

You frustration might be warranted, but you might want to reconsider. HP is doing some nice things with tech support and warranties.

I recommend Sony Vaios for my corporate clients.

Heh... Well I decided that maybe my laptop cooler sucked, so I tossed it out the window and took one of those cheap $5 desk fans like this...

... and layed it under my laptop blowing blowing up. So far so good lol.

Lenovo makes the only (PC) laptop worth a fuck today. Thinkpad "T" Series.

Get one of these... http://zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?Idx=280. Works great.

I've had a couple Compaq's and they sucked. Pretty happy with Dell m1330 now. MacBooks are nice too.

I bought my first laptop, an Asus, a few years ago. Still running strong. Still using it now, for example. And for the price and configuration, kicked most other "name brand" laptops' asses in performance and price.

I'm not a hardware guy, or a software guy (this laptop's had XP, CentOS and now Ubuntu). I'm also not some trendy person in regard to "designer" computing. So, whatever. *shrug*

Anyone who's serious about their laptop and travels a lot with it, should go for IBM. As far as quality comes, those are the shit.

At least that's what people tell me :D
