:2cents UFC 86: Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin - Any Predictions??

I've gotta say that when these two coaches from the Ultimate Fighter step into the ring on Saturday the 5th, there is going to be a lot of blood on the floor of the Octagon when this one is finished.

My take on the fight is that Griffin is the obvious underdog however he has a decent chance of winning the championship title here. If he can manage to take Rampage down to the mat, he can dominate. However if he can't take Jackson down, 'Run Forrest, Run!' comes to mind - He's going to have stay out of the way of his opponents thunderous blows and his famous match ending power slams into the canvass.

I believe that Forrest Griffin is being underestimated with the odds set for him at +200. If Griffin can do what I outlined above, he's got a shot. It may be a longshot, but this is the UFC and anything can happen...

MY PICK: Griffin

I predict its going to be 2 men wrestling on the floor, grabbing crotch for a solid 5 minutes as usual.

And one of my good friends will have it recorded for me to watch when i get to his place.....even though he himself has probably already seen it 3-4x by the time i get there

I say UFC can't be called "ultimate" until weapons are allowed & we go back to Roman style.

I never bet sports on any of the betting sites, but I am a big UFC fan so would consider a friendly wager via Paypal or similar if someone wants to take Forest over Rampage. :-)

well who knows since forrest griffin is a ufc actor ... could be scripted either way...

I watched a lot and ive never called foul or fake until i seen forrest griffin fight shogun Rua...

totally lame if you ask me... you can see RUa holding back... griffin needed his comeback to stay in the ranks for the upcoming shows n shit so they dropped rua in there to lose...

who here really think griffin would beat rua ?

seriously...

I say, every round it goes increase Forest's chances by 20%. If he does not get knocked out, he'll win by sub.

Forrest by RNC in the fifth.

I predict Rampage, the better puncher, will be chasing Forrest who will try to hit and run.
And I predict Forrest will chip away at him, until he is so worn down that he gets choked.

I pick Rampage based on the power behind his hands. Sneak one in and goodnight

That said. I dont see either fighter letting a lucky or sneaky hit through. Both fighters are at the top of their game and whoever wins will deserve to hold the belt. But you never know with the UFC

I still gotta go with Rampage on this one, and I see this easily being a 3 fight series to determine the best of the 2.

I'm taking griffin in a fluke 1st round knockout.

Griffin looks corruptible & will throw a fight at the peek of his popularity.

Mark my words, it might very well be this fight coming up......

I like your breakdown! I'm on the other end though. Rampage has been very rarely submitted on the ground. I don't think Forrest can do waht other's couldn't.

Let's go over the two fighters who have beaten Page in dramatic fashion, Shogun and Wanderlai, with Wanderlai in particular. Wandy is Forrest's training partner. Wandy knocked the fuck out Rampage in Pride, beat him silly. Fast forward now to Page having a better trainer, better training partners, and being overall a better fighter...

Then bring into the fact that Forrrest gets a concussion by Wanderlai when they spar... I dont' see Forrest winning. Sorry. In any aspect of the fight, standing or the ground.

I really think rampage is just too mean a mothafuxa to mess around with right now.

Hes got the mental game right now thats his top asset. Forest isnt going easy- but I wouldnt be surprised if he gets caught early..quick and vicious ground and pound by jackson- and a stoppage by the ref.

Or...to really surprise the MMA world- tap out forest rear naked choke- because im betting forest isnt giving his JJ any respect- therefore Rampage will give him a little surprise.

how else do you explain shogun losing to griffin and not fighting like he ever has...

I understand the skill lvl and endurance and also the fact that shogun wasnt allowed to heel their face or what else hes famous for...

he fought NOTHING Like he usually does and he HASNT been back since...

And then whgen he was submitted you could see in his face and eyes that he regretted even getting in the ring for the lose...

ive never called foul until that fight...

forrest was going down hill... he was losing (in his past fights n such) white neeeded something to bring him back so he looked like a tough fighter... when hes not tough, not compared to who is a real fighters in the octagon... 75% of his weight class could beat his ass...

ive said my piece...

if it were a total fluke that griffin beat Rua... fine... but i dont think it was a "fluke"...

Rampage because he has a chin and Forest does not have KO power. But Forest is training at Xtreme Couture so you never know.

Umm.... Shogun had a torn ACL, then surgery, and kept the contract to fight. His cardio was non existent for that reason.

Fix a fight? Oh come on.

Most of the Chute Boxe people were on steroids in Japan. That and the fact that they were able to use knees to the head on the ground and stomps made that team almost unstoppable. In the US...no stomps, they have to retrain their ground game = they are not as dominant. Also, there is a reason most of the premier fighters left that camp. Vale Tudo is not as useful in the US where they follow the unified MMA Rules.

Also, even Bas talks about how it is basically impossible to fix a fight. You can't control if you are going to be KO'd by a high kick or not.

In Japan they had fixes like Rampage/Wandi where the ref stood them up while Rampage was busy on the ground is one example. And even Rampage said that he had been asked to take a dive. That was Japan, the US is a little different. I'm sure there are some orgs where fights are fixed, but there is just too much sponsorship money on the table these days for someone like Rampage to throw a fight in the US. I do believe that most of the fighters respect the sport and are trying to legitimize it, not knock it back 20 years.

Not very good reasoning to call a fix.
Every fighter has off nights, and perhaps it was Rua's turn. Clearly he was gassed early in the fight and wasn't getting inside on Griffin -> frustration sets in and he looks like he pretty much gave up by the last round.

Also see Anthony and Brad's posts, they have more inside knowledge than I (especially because I have none).

All I can say is that Rampage is funny as hell. If anyone has seen the prefight interview with him, you'll agree.

I really wasn't a fan of his. I don't like all the howling, chain wearing crap when he comes out. I usually hate any fighter who does that sort of shit.

But after this season of TUF, I have to admit that I really like him now. He's dumb as fucking dirt, but he's funny. I almost peed my pants when they were evaluating the fighters on that first show and he was trying to take notes and he said "Damn, I can't spell what I want to write."

However, with the exception of BJ Penn, Forrest is my favorite guy, so I have to root for him.

Fix a fight? Oh come on.
I was unaware of the circumstances, I can accept that...

you obviously keep a way closer eye on this area than anyone else here...

perhaps I am bitter from watching that fight, but you all have to agree...

If nothing else... Rua, overall, is a much better fighter than griffin...

Many count RUA as one of the best overall fighters period. Like was mentioned he came back from a serious injury without being able to properly train. It's the Brazilian way to just fight, not back out. Many fighters wouldn't have gotten in to the ring under the circumstances, unwilling to tarnish their records with a lack luster performance. Shogun manned up and fought anyway, gotta give him props for that.

Rampage will out-muscle Griffin. Rampage also has a chin like a brick and is able to take an obscene amount of punishment. If Griffin doesn't have knockout power, Rampage has this in the bag.

Hey Penny, i'll give you a hint, Rampage is not known for his Subs and Forest has excellent sub defense.

Rampage KO r1 or r2.
