Can someone explain to me what a cross-sale is?

I know it's a stupid question, and I think I kind of understand what it is. But can someone clarify it for me?

Cross sales are deals made between sponsors. One sponsor agrees to place a link on their join page or inside the members' area, for example, if the other sponsor agrees to do the same for them. It's cross promoting each others companies.

Here's the deal.

When you buy a subscription on a sponsor's page, you enter your cc number and hit a submit button.

A cross sale is when a subscription to another site is included. Usually, this is in the form of a pre-checked button with some verbiage (also subscribe to xyz site). Usually this is a free for a limited time offer - so if you don't cancel by x time, you start being charged.

Sometimes, these are hidden (ie th form field is type=hidden) so the surfer doesn't even know. This would be, imho, fraud. Having the boxes ticked by default, rather than unticked by default, is right on the edge of deceptive business practices.

"Suggesting the purchase of an additional product or service that may not necessarily relate to the original product purchased."

Offering your members Viagra is a Cross Sale... Etc..

It doesn't have to be as FluffyGrrrl suggested that is just one option for a Cross Sale...

Normally, in almost all cases - xsales are NOT hidden. - Actually, you would say that is super rare.

Now having pre-checked xsales, even one or two of them, is normal. The xsale can also happen on the credit card page, or any page, from the thank you to member areas - after the sale has happened. One click email offers, is a form of an xsale.

That is totally unethical. There is no way in hell any sponsor program would ever do something shady like that. I'm shocked that you would even imply it!
