Are there alternative pre made scripts or is custom pretty much the only way to go?

My personal opinion is that with such a large program that needs to really integrate on several different levels you really need to go custom. With custom you can outline all the features you want and have them there as opposed to being stuck with 'default' features. Also with a custom job your coder will take responsibility for his code , as opposed to ordering some template system from a company that passes responibilty down the line like we see in this thread. Your coder will have knowledge of every aspect of the avs system (including the billing I would hope), so if something is not operating correctly or if you wanna add some features (be it free or paid coding time) your coder will have the ability to do it. It seems that PC has several different people writing code/installing/selling/billing, etc. , none of which want to or do take any responsibilty for the stability/functionalty, etc. of there scripts.

Yes William this post is a flat out slap in the face directed at your company. And yes I do know what Iam talking about , my first interaction with PC was several years ago and like I said I have spent well over $5000 with PC. I learned my lesson, unfortunatly it seems that your business strategy seems unchanged, sell as many new scripts as possible and not worry about anything previously released. Its about time to either straighten out your business practices and make right with some webmasters or get the fuck out. I vote for get the fuck out , but hey I guess you love the attention you are getting.

HELP ME, HELP US, STOP THE PERLCODERS PLAGUE !

Concerning PerlCoders TotalAVS-PRO script, our site uses it at:

We are an all-gay Adult Verification Service, fairly new in the biz.

At first we purchased a custom-made script from a different company, located in Australia. Cost was $1400, and was nothing but junk. Some features didn't work at all, and it did not include all the features a regular AVS needs.

We only struggled with that script for about 4 months, then we heard about PC coming out with the Pro-version of their AVS script. Talked to a young fellow named Ryan Kinnear there, and he explained the differences between the regular version of the AVS script and the PRO version.

We purchased the PRO version for somewhere around $2500 installed from Ryan, and that was about 10 months ago. Have not regretted it since.

The PRO version did everything the "Big Boys" can do (AdultCheck, etc.) But there were 3 or 4 small modifications we wanted to have done to the script to tailor it for our site. There was no problem with that either; it only took a few days to get the script revised for each revision and it worked every time.

We are thrilled with the excellence in service and support from PC and have grabbed 7 other small-time scripts for free from their site, using our PC membership. They all worked fine, except for one of them that we wanted modified for our own purpose. They told us they were very busy and it could take up to 2 weeks. But they had it set up in only 4 days.

So our experience has been excellent with them. We would recommend them for any perl scripts, from their site, or custom made. Save money and get an excellent script with excellent followup, which you sure don't get with most companies these days!

That's our experience......good luck and make lots of $$$ !

James did indeed modify tavs, as I stated in a post above "for those that dont already know, GetVerified runs tavs (modified)", most webmaster do modify it to suit their wants and needs more fully.

Mav: have we ever not been there to help you with anything you needed, I ask this only to show we do in fact support our products. We have helped Mav with many non-script related things just because he asked.

Vik, we spent months working with a few people. 1 was kantkant, who deleted half the damn script several times, switched servers after we had it installed and working and asked us to do it again for free (which we did) then we get blamed because someone is spamming his email or someshit 10 days after we installed on his server. Like we can cause him to be spammed... The other was Blaze, and I have yet to find out why the hell his version failed to work when in Ryans own words, it was the identical version that is running on hentaikey and totalavs and gaysupersite.

Rory is keeping things going simply for the reason that he wants to make 5-6k on a custom script. Thats fine, I can understand the need to make money anyway you can when you cant make it any other way.

Blaze, I really really dislike pissing matches anymore, so I am staying away from it for the most part. When you want to listen to what is said to you instead of ignoring it and keeping the piss flowing then come talk.

In this biz there are alot of people who have vested interests and their own prejudices based on personalities as much as anything else. That said, I'm staggered Nuc didn't just grit his teeth and refund this guy when the problems started. In his position I don't think I would have let the thing go on for months in the first place.

I guess if PerlCoders.com wanted to keep the "moral high ground" then they should offer a partial or full refund , however after reading this thread I think there has probably been a little fault and some bad luck on both sides.

I think one of the issues here is that when you buy "off the shelf" scripts, you run the risk of having to fit within the legacy design of that script. Inevitably you're going to find some users have problems. Off the shelf scripts are a great way to do some things and a bad way to do others.

If you are going to run an AVS, do it yourself and get someone to code it to your requirements. Many AVS systems have their own features and quirks, no "off the shelf" script will fill these needs.

KanKan, we have supported you for a solid YEAR, due to you deleting half the script, buying cheap hosting that would not even install CGI.pm for you, trying to edit html templates by opening them in a bloody browser, having US teach you what FTP even IS.

KantKant: I have every chat log of everytime you entered the channel and everytime anyone helped you. Do you really want to go this route? Jack seems to have had a valid reason to bitch. You do not.

Also, Jim at gayspersite has absolutely NO affiliation with me or perlcoders, other than the fact he buys our stuff and allows us to list his sites as using said scripts.

The general idea I get from this is that almost all of Perlcoders customers are just stupid. Always messing up the scripts, and not noticing the frequent updates. Whats wrong with you people ?

Sexfind, I would agree 100%, except for one minor thing. If you read above, I authorized Ryan to make Jack happy MONTHS ago. I even emailed Jack saying that in exact words at that time. This has nothing to do with Jack caring about his money or he would have gone thru and gotten it months ago.

I thought I was echoing your own comments. You do seem to be saying all your customers are just stupid and mess up your scripts all the time, so you have to spend endless hours of support to repair the customers fuckups. Not to mention, how the updates are frequent yet your customers just don't seem to notice it.

I will take the time to explain clearly what happened, and the i will link this thread to all webmaster forum that i know.

1) Very important point, yes i am french and sometimes my english is not as good as i wish. (That's why i want now a refund because a few hours ago, on their support chat, Fozzi was truly sarcastic about that and i am not here to be a joker !)

2) Perlcoders only installed 2 times the script, the first time i was on shared account, and they can't install the MySQL database because i didn't have SSH access.... So we moved to a dedicated server and they reinstalled the script. (We judge that it will be better to have our own server and we rent it especcially for a script that never works...:) )

3) On this time, i enter in partnership with a sysadmin. We i said our box get spammed just after the passage of Perlcoders teams, i mean the server was use as an open relay to send spam, and funny, for adult site, even we closed the relay on the setup of the machine ???? My partner always ask himself how this happened?

4) We found a lot of bugs in the way that the script worked and to implement it we mixed it up with another commercial one. Here come a long time of request to have a bit help to link the script (TAVS) to a second database. They tried to sell us this help. But fortunatly they finnished to accept to give us some indications... (But we have to do the job ourself! And they always clams if we modify the script we would be outside garranty !!!)

5) Then come the long time of request to have a particular payment gateway (we asked it since the beginning but before we bought the script we always heard, someone will doing a module for clickbank....) Hmmm. we always waiting for it :) But why don't you take the ccbill (or ibill) module? TAVS was done for this one.... Yeah have u seen their rates? I try to lead a business, do u know the word PROFIT?

6) At last we found a big security hole. Exopired custommer can link content site by direct url. So they sent us another version of the script (The Pro one) but we realize it (as the file have the same name and i was thinking the new were an upgrade) when Nuclei threat us on their support chat to don't use this version. But we had one more time to re-install all... and off course our time is free !!!! But the problem of direct linking was always here. We asked support and support and support and maybe 6 month ago someone spoke about htaccess, so we asked for a littler help to do that. (we have also full time job and aren't as free as we want, above all we live on GMT zone and it is always night here when i have the luck to reach someone !!!) We sincerly asked for this file that we never get.
Now, they ban us after tried to give us this htaccess file and even to send us the PRO version (1750$ more).
What can i say, in isn't in my behavior to look for riot. But now the bottle is full and i want my money back.

So take it officially, as u didn't answered my mail and i can't access your chat, i want my money back as written in you policy the script have a big security hole for us.

I let the users of this board be the judge, and of course i will give the opportunity to many others.

The fact as Vik put it is that TotalAVS is an "off the shelf" script. It does what needs to be done, but every single webmaster out there wants his site to be different and ends up modifying the base. That is to be expected. TotalAVS is a solid base on over 20 sites (exclusing jacks, why I have no idea, but it obviously didnt work for him; and excluding KantKant, for obvious reasons). You take that base and you either modify it to suit your special needs/wants or you get someone to do so, be it us or another coder.

I have yet to see *anyone* except jack say the script didnt work. KantKant did, but I discount that entirely, as I do know all the details on his.

I will now withhold judgement until I have more of the facts. As a (part-time) programmer, I can understand the differences that arise with a myriad of configs and end-user skill levels out there. That's why I waited so long to jump on the Perl wagon (and now everyone says I should go to PHP).

Correct, we installed completely 2 times, on 2 servers, and the mysql problem was not ssh access but missing modules that the host refused to install for you mate. How many times did we go in with FTP and fix all the stuff that mysteriously kept getting deleted?

Whatever the issues are with Nuc, its unfair on anyone to bring up personal relationships/family issues. These are not relevant and don't serve the purposes of debate too well.

That said, the confrontational manner that Nuc adopts with his unhappy customers does himself no favours.

I've been watching this thread with interest, so far I have seen:

1. People who are unhappy with a product for whatever reason.

2. People who do not understand that a myriad of configuration issues and specific circumstances make "off the shelf" scripts unworkable in some applications.

3. People who have an axe to grind and jump on the bandwagon

4. A vendor who gets just a little bit too bullyish with his unhappy customers.

I guess that now that this issue is so public, it remains to be seen who will show themselves to be the better person by formulating a reasonable resolution which (1) is fair and reflects the effort put in by Perlcoders to deliver a product; and (2) allows the aggrieved parties (ex customers) to obtain some redress or resolution of their complaint.

This is probably a classic situation where everyone needs to give a little ground and reach compromise:2 cents:

"...When your users accounts have expired, there is no need to worry. By simply crontabing a script (example included in the readme) the site will automatically remove these accounts so that your users don't access your sites for a moment longer than they are supposed to. ..."

The problem is that the user can always access the content by direct link. They just have to put it in their favourites !!!!
So i call that a security issue.

read the damn thread mate. #1. I didnt work with blaze, Ryan did. I did not know the details until I questioned Ryan in depth last night. #2. Jack emailed me about getting this cleared up months ago, to which I replied that Ryan was authorize to deal with him to make everyone happy. Jack did not go that route at that time. I have stated at LEAST 4 times in this thread the exact same thing regarding making Jack happy.

And I ignored Jack when it appeared to me that he still was not listening and going thru the proper channel to resolve this, and just pissing.
