Here's what happened...

I was looking for a dedicated server for my tube site and I read many good things about phatservers here on gfy.... the thing is that I was a total noob when it came to servers.

So, I decided to send a friendly e-mail where I stated 1) It is a video Sharing Website and 2) I have no clue what kind of a server I need. I asked what kind of a plan and server I needed.

Sly from phatservers then told me to get the 3mbps plan (of course, now I know myself that this was ridiculous). But I had no clue and from hearing all the good feedback I trusted sly, so I chose that 150$ /mo 3mbps plan + 150$ deposit.

Let me mention some good things too - my server that I was using before them was a mess and we had a very hard time moving everything. But the people from phatservers tried their best and eventually successfully moved all my files.

They just got my site running and I was excited about that - but not for long because when I wanted to play a video clip it was very laggy and not watchable. I asked what was going on because I thought - dammit i got a dedicated server and now its all laggy???
They told me that I was already at 15mbps (which didn't tell me shit) and I was very frustrated and felt being scammed already. They said that they will remove it for over the weekend and see how much mbps my site was running at.

A week has past and I was of course very happy because my site was running so smooth and I thought that everything would be the way it was. But then all of sudden they told me to upgrade because my site was running at around 20mbps and I said that I cannot afford this and that I asked Sly before we moved if my site will run. Why didn't he just tell me that he cannot tell me exactly what kind of server I needed. So now I had to find a new server move everything again and at least I expected them to understand that they messed up and would refund my money.

NO THEY DID NOT! I explained to them that they scammed me into this because they told me to go with a 3mbps server, just to lure me into a way more expensive plan.

I was so furious and wanted to post here back then and wanted to tell my cc company to get my money back. When I told them that, they threatened me with the "the global collection agency" they worked with. They said that they won't refund my money but will cancel my plan and I won't be charged anymore. They said they won't refund my money because they didn't know that I had a tube site and bla bla.. then I sent them my conversation with Sly where it says "I have a video sharing website"... but nope they didn't refund shit because I was using 20 mbps for a few days that I did not even tell them to give free. So I lost $300 for nothing!!!!!!!
I thought fuck those cunts and that they were not worth my time.

But here's where it gets even better! Just 3 days later they post a thread here on gfy that anyone who signs up for a new plan will get the first month for free - no matter how much mbps they are using. WTF?? Thank you...

Okay so a month has passed.... I forgot completely about it... and earlier I got an email from phatservers.net with an invoice and the message

"Apologies for sending out Invoices late this month.
Here is your invoice for your accounting records.
Thank you for your business - we appreciate it very much."

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????? This will be refunded for sure phatservers!!

And if you really are that great of a server company then fucking admit that you messed up one time and that you will just refund all my money.

We normally require a written 30 day notice to cancel an account as per the terms listed on our site in section 8. When you signed up for service you agreed to these terms and should you try and charge back we will be more than happy to document everything to your Credit Card company and if necessary, will turn it over to the global collection agency we work with. As Sly already said, we are willing to cancel the account now and waive the notice to help you out since this did not work out for you, but we will not be refunding you any money as you were using up to 20 MBPS of bandwidth transfer while you were "testing" out your tube site. We set up the server and you used the service, therefore, you are responsible for the payments already made. We will have the server taken off line and cancel your account with billing.

Ouch. May have been miscommunication though -- perhaps the keyword "tube" may have changed the offer a bit. Although "video sharing site" is a good indication some decent traffic will be pushed.

www.alphared.com they are pretty cheap. What you paid for 3mbit at Phatservers you'll get 15 with them.

Oh and btw Sly wouldn't knowingly rip you off, its been an error in communication. Sly is one of the best people to deal with in this business.

Every tube client i've had that went with alphared lately has taken 1 week+ to get their server up and had really really bad support after that.

I also doubt sly would rip off anyone knowingly, he's a 'stand-up guy' *pun intended*

Nat net is also a very good host.

you're a total fucking n00b if you didn't have any idea that a tube site would chew up more than a starter plan of 3mbit. so don't say you just don't have much knowledge of servers but know your way around the adult biz because every webmaster with a bit of experience and brains knows enough about bandwidth it's one of if not their largest expenses.

you misled Sly by telling him you had 1000 unique visitors a day on a 'video sharing site' - nobody in this biz uses that terminology, if you had used the term 99% of webmasters use you'd have told him you had a 'tube site' and he wouldn't have recommended a 3mbps plan.

Okay first of all, I don't give a damn if I am a noob in your eyes.. for fucking sake I even said it - so what is the problem here?? (I have a few tgp on my buddy's server... this site was obviously too big). My tube site is a "legal" tube site and I am not here to discuss with you if my website is in your eyes legal or not.

Now I know that it was impossible for them to tell me what plan to use - but here's the problem.... you don't just lie and say "this will even give you enough room to grow your website". That is what's wrong here! All it takes is to say "I am sorry but I cannot tell you what plan to choose because I don't know your bandwidth". Then I wouldn't have went through all this in the first place.

One more thing.. Sly sounds like a very nice guy and I really didn't mean to bash on him here... that's why the title says fuck you to PHATSERVERS.net and not SLY.
Sly didn't say once that he won't refund my money... Matt or whatever his name was did.
So don't think I mean to bash on Sly here.

I didn't want to post my URL because you guys are just a big waste of bandwidth obviously. I do not steal... I have a lot of videos that I still need to apply banners to but being on my own here.. this takes a while.

I try as hard as possible to keep my site legal and have on all my sponsored video clips a big banner. Think about it... how else would I want to make money? It's not like I am redtube and the crappy fling banner isn't really doing it either lol (not converting too bad though).

Take a look at my site and you will see that there are 650x150 banners on each sponsored video. I also create profiles where I put a full ad in.

If it was so cheap to host a full featured tube site there would have been lots more of them now.. ;)

Running a tubesite means you need bandwidth bigtime! I agree phatservers was wrong luring you in with the 3mbit deal, but you also should have investigate more on what it takes to run a tube..

Your working in the internet biz that means not knowing only HTML but atleast some basic knowledge of bandwidth etc. as well.

How are they to guess how fast your site will grow, or calculate the fact that on your old server people probably couldn't stream the vids properly 90% of the time. Now you get a decent server that manages to handle the load and somehow that is the hosts fault?
