Anyone "Glucose Intolerant"?

I have blood work done every year since I stopped drinking, and chewing tobacco. I have gotten the results back today, and there was a note on the side saying, "glucose intolerant. watch your sugars".

While I admit I eat a lot more sugar since I stopped drinking, especially in the past year (used to never eat candy, or much sweets). I checked last year's results. My bad cholesterol dropped big time. So now that's good. But the triglycer... doubled, and my glucose thing raised to 107. I guess 125 is diabetes.

Anyone been through this?

Yeah...

Quit chewing and drinking 3 years ago. Now have to worry about this shit. Lovely.

Guess I'm supposed to step up the treadmill, and bowflex, while cutting out the sugars.

Although I am not a diabetic, I do have a background in medicine.

Glucose Intolerance is a pre-diabetic condition.

You are now on that thin redline in regards to becoming a diabetic.

Did the doctor not consult with you regarding the results of this test?

I also would question the test itself. Did you fast for 8 hours prior to the test?

Not fasting for 8 hours prior to the test can give inflated results for both diabetes and cholesterol.

It always pays to get a second opinion, just cause he is a doctor big deal There are alot of doctors who are rotten.

The doctor I saw last year wanted to operate on my prostrate when there was no evidence at all that the prostate was causing my condition, I am still suffering, but going to a new doctor next week.

Yeah. I think it was 8-9 hours by the time they finally took the blood.

Nope. They do the test, mail you all the results, write some notes on it, and mail it to you. They say, "if it's serious, we call you in". Um,.. to ME diabetes is a pretty fucking serious deal.

So trying to avoid it would be a good idea I would think.

Their "hot tips" on avoiding sugars was about the extent of it. Last test, they wrote on there, exercise more, watch diet.

So true...

I used to be allergic to acitminiphin. I would tell the dr's this, and they would often give me drugs that had it. Like Viacotin, among others, that would not get caught until the pharmacy.

Also when I would be in the hospital, they almost injected me with the wrong stuff more than once. It's crazy. I told my family to make sure and investigate, and sue should something happen.

I was for 10 years. It isn't just sugar, it's white foods -- white flour, potatoes, pasta, rice -- anything high carb converts to sugar in your body.

Cut back on carbs when you can. Eat foods with whole wheat flour, brown rice, sweet potatoes .....

Damn! That's crazy!

Hopefully more exercise, cutting out the sweets, and white stuff/carbs will get me back below 100. I definitely do not want any diabetes. I have a few friends who's parents have it.

I'll pass. Especially if it can be prevented.

Don't eat a "fair" amount of potatoes, pasta and whole wheat bread unless you are extraordinarily active lifting weights and doing cardio every day. Even if a foodstuff is whole wheat grains it still adds up to a *ton* of carbs, probably way more than you need. Whole wheats are good for you and should be substituted for white bread in all instances, but that doesn't mean one should eat a lot of that stuff. If you are pre-diabetic you would do better to eat very minimal amounts of heavy carbs in conjunction with lean meats, fibrous vegetables and some fruits.

My body could not metabolize alcohol anymore. So when I would drink, it would put my heart into arithmea (b-fib) and I would have to go to the hospital to be cardioverted. The medicines did not work, so the only way to get my heart back on a normal rhythm was going to the electric chair.

I stopped chewing because after I stopped drinking, had a lot of anxiety. Even more when I would chew. I guess the nicotine. The sober mind went off, and told me I didn't wanna die of lip/jaw/throat cancer, so I quit that also.

I still had incredible anxiety for a bit longer. Took Xanex. But then I started the treadmill, bowflex, working out more, and the anxiety went away. Stopped the xanex last year.

Good job, that chewing is a pretty high risk activity. I remember reading about this guy who died from that. You should read his story:

Look up "glycemic load" and "glycemic index." following those guildelines can really help lower your sugars and increase your overall health bigtime. My boyfriend is type 2, and since changing our diet, he's dropped 40lbs (he's now lean and mean at 175lbs, 6'1") and his sugars are very much improved!
