Rogers Customers

If you're a Rogers customer, have you started seeing these warnings when surfing?

Quote:
Our records show your household has reached 100% of the 60 GB monthly usage allowance provided with your Rogers Hi-Speed Internet Express service.
After looking up my usage records, I'm showing my monthly invoice would cost about $800/month (for 450 gigs of usage). What the hell? Is Rogers insane!!

The highest internet package they have only allows 95 gigs per month. What kind of highspeed internet service is this?! What other alternatives are out there for us canucks?

I'm thinking of getting a dual WAN router and have Rogers and Bell at the same time.

What's the point of an internet service offering 9 megabit connections when you can't even use a fraction of it? According to my daily stats, I use 40 gigs per day.

Try bell. As far as I'm aware there are no limits. I got a notice in the mail from Rogers that they are going to start charging 2 bucks per gig overage in June. Rogers doesn't care about how much you need, they just want customers who only use the net to check their facebook and email.

Yeah, $2/gig for overage is insane, that'll put my Internet bill at about $3k/month, lol. They're about to lose a client

Ditto here. I don't use anything close to what you do but come very very close to going over my limit every month. Last time i checked bell high speed wasn't even available in my area though. Surprising since I live in a very suburban area of ottawa. Rogers really needs to get with the times and stop being so cheap.

Then why are they offering internet packages upwards of 12 - 15 megabit? 60 gig per month is less than 1 megabit.

Mine says:

if you do go beyond your allotted usage allowance, you would pay your regular monthly subscriber rate, plus $1.50 per GB, until you reach $25.00.

I think that means that even if I use 1000GB a month it will only charge up to $25.00 extra.

Where do you see that? I'm seeing the $2/gig charge for Express clients. $1.50 for Extreme clients, but I didn't see any reference to the $25 maximum. Does that mean the maximum overage is $25 or they'll cut your internet after you hit that $25?

I'm looking at what rogers sent me now and it does say what ZaHa quoted though doesn't say what, if anything would happen once you hit the $25 bucks. If nothing, its not that bad a deal if when you're using that kind of bandwidth.

Yeah, I'd pay $25 extra over the estimated $3000/month I would be paying for overage.

they want the average surfer that spends 1-2 hours a day online.

there is no way you will use more then 60 gigs a month spending 2 hours a day online.

I do agree that 60 gigs is low but thats the market they want 40 gigs a day is alot no isp really wants you no matter what you might think they loose $$$$ on you.

Maybe I'm using a lot but it only works out to 5 megabit. It doesn't seem that crazy to me (400 gig/week).

No idea about bandwidth caps .. but I was very interested in the speeds ..personally i hate Shaw..which i think is Rogers ..

I was with Telus for 3 years. Their speed and uptime beat any other service easily, but the bullshit of putting up with them is not worth it. They are never wrong, it's always your problem. Regardless of how obvious it is, according to the problem is always on your end, never theirs. Plus their servers are infested with viruses. Good luck if you're reinstalling your computer and need to get a service pack from the internet. Before you can install a patch to block the worm, it will be there screwing it all up for you. Telus is a waste of time. Good speed, virtually no downtime (unlike Shaw) but the bullshit of putting up with them is not worth it. Don't even ask about their "rip off" practices...

PS - I'm in Edmonton, Alberta

I run both rogers and bell and honestly Bell has the worst support imaginable and setting up the line took them 6 weeks. I got them to install my internet twice in 3 years and both times it took them 6 weeks each time and thats with aton of bitching. I just got my Rogers notice and i'm only doing 45gigs a month, so i'm good! But looks like Rogers only wants customers who don't surf alot.

This is bullshit, I switched to Rogers 5-6 years ago because Bell were the ones who came out with these bogus caps.

Last I was aware Bell also has a 60 - 75GB bw cap on their services, can anyone in ON confirm/deny this?

Cogeco was the only good provider I have used in Ontario, and they are only available to exclusive areas.

They both (Rogers, Bell) technically have had caps since 2005 or so. They just never enforced them until now it seems...

the internet is getting overloaded with video usage.

thank the tube sites for that - porn and mainstream ones.

more and more companies will HAVE to move to this method, it's the only way to get controll on usage and keep it within usable limits

this will start happening a LOT in the near future folks to everyone
