Been there, done that. I'm taking one of my cats into the vet today--she's got some kind of growth behind an ear. I have a big cat carrier, and put it on its end, so the door is at the top, and then grab the cat by the scrag on it's neck, and lower the cat into the carrier while holding it's rear legs together. It usually goes pretty well, and both I and the cat are unhurt.

is there a way to make the carrier a happy place for cats. Like give it treats in there when not going anywhere so it saw it as a happy thing. like you would with a dog?

LOL, I have a 15 year old cat who has been to the vet 2 times in her entire life - getting her series of shots and getting spayed. She TOTALLY freaked out both times and during the 3 moves during that time. Took her days to recover. She is so afraid of everything that there are people who have known me for years, have been to my house dozens of times and never seen her. She's a bit of a wimp ;)

BTW, the vet is the one who told me there was no reason to bring her in for any more shots since she is a single indoor cat, so no lectures And hell, at 15 she's the healthiest animal I've ever had at that age.

One trick is to leave it open so it becomes a normal place to play or sleep in, but they'll usually remember the first time you actually use it for transport!

yeah.. ESPECIALLY if you're taking them to the vets! I've known cats who literally SCREAM when placed in one of those things.. cos they know where they're eventually going to end up, and vets often go prodding and poking them and sticking weird things up their butts, or sharp needles in their skin!

Once they've made the 'Oh shit it's THAT thing again!!' association it's kinda hard to convince them to be mellow

We had to take one of our ferrets to the vet today. She was lethargic and grinding her teeth. She's dehydrated and the vet thinks there is either some sort of blockage or she has ulcers. She's on an IV and they are pumping her full of radioactive dye so they can x-ray her and see whats wrong.

I sure hope she's ok. She's a sweet little girl around 1 year old.

the trick is leave the carrier out. then grab the cat by the scruff of the neck. don't fuck around, one hand, back of the neck and they calm down, this is how their mom grabbed them. it works. I have to take my cat to the vet once every few weeks since he got diabetes. poor cat. He cries and whines, but when i grab him like that he shuts up and lets me put him in there.

She was fine the next day but I wasn't. I went to pic her up and they said she was pregnant but there's no way as she was never out side, I think it was to get the extra $25.
