Been there, done that. I'm taking one of my cats into the vet today--she's got some kind of growth behind an ear. I have a big cat carrier, and put it on its end, so the door is at the top, and then grab the cat by the scrag on it's neck, and lower the cat into the carrier while holding it's rear legs together. It usually goes pretty well, and both I and the cat are unhurt.
