on a serious note i think bvf got a point about moving to a sunny place if u got the cash. Im living in holland and the weather here is seriously depressing as fuck. When i wake up and look outside im already thinking to myself 'jesus christ another day with shitty weather'... and i notice my mood is getting worse and worse just waking up to shitty weather every single day.

Depression makes you want to crawl into a deep dark hole and sleep. If you want to Kick it you have to do the opposite of what your body says you want....its bad programing. Force yourself to walk, get some fresh air in your lungs and sun on your face, also when your walking look far into the distance. Having your head up, in good posture actually helps, cause you can create depression just having bad body form( hunched over ,shallow breathing...like at a computer desk). If your a busy guy like Sleazy maybe just buy a UV bulb to have on your desk, and try to get up every 30- 45 mins just to decompress your lower back.
Good Luck

Pick up my guitar and lay down some blues or something clean. Depends on the mood etc.

Hobby's are good!

start appreciating the "little" things in life more ... like air.

it's always nice to know that there is a good chance you will wake up tomorrow to try again

i'm sad that you're sad sweetpea. i agree with the walking and long shower, they work. also, spilling guts to a close friend helps. i find just saying what is wrong even if i don't want to or feel embarrased takes a giant weight off me. i know it's bad but when i am really depressed i eat like shit and it is somehow comforting. anything with chocolate (they say it is a natural upper) and lots of carbs. not so bad if you don't do it for weeks on end. call me or hit me up anytime :)

Pour myself a drink and listen to some Tindersticks:

Usually does the trick.

Hey Sleazy... I go through depressed moments of my life from time to time, and refuse to take medication.. The medications basically "normalize" you.. So that you don't have so many ups and downs.. But who wants to live life riding a flatline? :) Not me.. I'll take my downs like a man, so I can feel my highs like a child again.

This song really hit home for me, I hope it helps you too. Read it twice!

Song is called Dancing in the Rain, by Blu and Exile.

Check it
Sometimes I hate takin trips to the lab,
got my pen and pad, book of instrumentals and smash,
catch the bus regardless, tryin hard to be an artist
but my A&R be callin me out my zone into his office,
bein cautious, cuz he don't want my record to brake,
askin me how I think my project's progressin and shit,
I said cool. But the truth is, I'm stressin a grip,
cuz it's hard to make music when this depression exists
they say use it as inspiration - the best of 'em did
but I still see, I can't handle this pressure for shit
and if you ask me, stress is a bitch. My girl needs more attention
and my record label's desperate for hits
Now I'm pissed cuz I'm gettin out the zone again,
makes me start to dread when I see a microphone and shit
... it ain't supposed to be like that.. I said I'll be right back,
I left the office, got on the phone and called my partner Jack
and I asked him - remind me why I rap?
And right before he answered, I remembered my passion in the past,
when I was scribblin in my tablet, or to box out my mom and dad scrappin',
to help me when my grandmother passed,
plus the many times when I was homeless, and times when I was broke,
and this music made a way when I was hopeless
He told me to remember the rain, it'll diminish the pain,
then he told me not to ask anything - cuz I know...

So I said 'well?' - he handed me a business card - I said 'what the hell is this?' - I was so freaked out I couldn't really even read the card - he said 'it's BlahBlah - group home for mentally challenged adults'. His point was to go outside myself and help somebody else, work that will give you some self worth and feel good about - I did do it for awhile but I can't say it really helped me with why I went to the shrink. I bet it does work for some people.

To sum up what Mutt said, do something for others - do something you don't have to do and that isn't selfish / for yourself - it feels good.

Can you post a link please?

What would you get depressed about?

Oh wait... nevermind.

If you are bummed out for a reason, of course addressing the cause head-on, if possible, is ideal. If you are depressed because of something you have to learn to live with (disappointed in another person, death in the family, stuff you can't change, season, phase of the moon, random endocrine system, just having a gothic week), then I recommend the following:

Hot bath with bath salts (I'm a fan of ylang-ylang and various woodsy aromatherapy sea salts, but even regular supermarket epsom salts can be awesome.)

Explore some place new. Not necessarily a trip, depending on time commitment, but even going to a new restaurant or different part of town can be therapeutic.

As was said before, pamper yourself a little. Eat something you really enjoy. Sleep in for a few days. Give yourself some time off to read or watch television or just take a walk around the block.

Try to get 45 minutes of sunshine when you first get up, even if it has to be artificial.

I'm not a fan of the gym, but I admit it is helpful.

There is always putting on a lot of eyeliner and getting an inappropriate haircut, but I hear that doesn't work for everyone.

I surround myself with positive people and a positive atmosphere,I cook, and then I eat. Repeat...

Cheer up bud

Kimmykim 03-10-2008 04:27 PM

I think you'd be better to address the source of the problem -- you get rid of the problem and you won't be depressed any more...

Give me a shout if you feel like it.

I go to my favorite restaurants. Fine food kills mild depressions here easily :)

I'm telling you AGAIN.....What you need to do is LEAVE CANADA!!!

I know you have Skufty and all and you're not about to leave him behind but while you're traveling, you can afford to put your dog in a pet hotel...I've done it before with my cat....

You can also go to another country with your animal.......I took my cat with me to Puerto Rico when I lived there......I couldn't imagine trying to transport a dog in an airplane but my cat can fit under the front seat on the plane....You can put the dog in cargo but during summer months, there is an animal cargo ban....

You will not find what you're looking for in Canada....I know what it is that you're looking for but I won't bother going into all of that.......Leave now while you're still relatively young and can afford to do it. You can even just go down every couple of months if you want to...

I'll be putting up some pictures when I go scouting my new offshore location next month.....Hopefully it will inspire you to get the fuck out of Canada yourself.

Pipecrew 03-10-2008 09:01 PM

I agree with BVF, get out of Canada. Its kinda hard to be depressed when you have shit like this in your backyard every few weeks.

http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?t... up=1357340936

Also, it helps to write shit down, like a journal almost, and occasionally go back and read it and you will see shit bothers you less and less and how far you've come since you've written about whatever is bothering you.

After Shock Media 03-11-2008 02:46 AM

Aside from a different location possibly (some like living in cold places etc.)

When I get real down I will pull out 500 to 1,000 and go do some shit for other people who really have crap or are dealing with shit times. I do not just rain down cash on them, but I do have the cash to use for certain things or to help out if that is what is in need. Sometimes its things I would typically not think of etc. Like that food banks are really low during the non holiday months, some after school program needs some new equipment, etc. Always seems to perk me up some.
