What word do you use to describe your evening meal?

I have been having an ongoing debate with a friend because I call the evening meal 'dinner' but to him that means lunch. Other people in the UK often call the evening meal 'tea'.

Back home growing up, my Nana would call that meal 'dinner' six days of the been but somehow on Sunday it became "supper".

What do you call it?

Dinner, but growing up "dinner" was the big meal after church and "supper" was the night time meal.

When its proper meal and sometime around 7-10pm, its dinner.

dinner = main or principal meal.

supper = evening dinner

By traditional definition, dinner can be any of your meals, even breakfast!

What the hell, some people call a meal "tea"? Never heard of that. What do you call actual "tea" that you drink then?

"Dinner" is the most common name for the evening meal in America, and "supper' is the second most common name for it.

In my world:

"Breakfast" is before 10. "Brunch" between 10 and 12. "Lunch" (or, on Sundays, "Late Brunch") between 12 and 3. "Early Dinner" from 3 to 5. "Dinner" from 5 - 11. "Supper" if there's already been dinner that day, and you're eating another meal for whatever reason.

We either say "Come to Dinner" or "Would you like to go to Dinner?"

But sometimes we say "It's Supper time"
