What word do you use to describe your evening meal?
 

I have been having an ongoing debate with a friend because I call the evening meal 'dinner' but to him that means lunch. Other people in the UK often call the evening meal 'tea'.

Back home growing up, my Nana would call that meal 'dinner' six days of the been but somehow on Sunday it became "supper".

What do you call it?

I call it tea

If it's cooked wrong, I call it shit!

When I was a child our family called it Tea in Australia but for the last 40 years I have called it Dinner :)

Dinner, but growing up "dinner" was the big meal after church and "supper" was the night time meal.

What do you call lunch? My partner is also from the North and he is a 'tea' guy for the evening mean and a 'dinner' guy for lunch. I can't get past saying lunch for the afternoon meal.

"Dinner" is the most common name for the evening meal in America, and "supper' is the second most common name for it.

It's always been Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner in my world. Sometimes on Sunday we had brunch.

In my world:

"Breakfast" is before 10. "Brunch" between 10 and 12. "Lunch" (or, on Sundays, "Late Brunch") between 12 and 3. "Early Dinner" from 3 to 5. "Dinner" from 5 - 11. "Supper" if there's already been dinner that day, and you're eating another meal for whatever reason.

Dinner. Tea is a drink, usually served hot, but sometimes cold, then it's Iced Tea.

We either say "Come to Dinner" or "Would you like to go to Dinner?"

But sometimes we say "It's Supper time" :thumbsup
