Ok I will agree there are some really really really bad parts of detroit, but also some really nice parts and the suburbs around detroit are great. I grew up in grosse pointe which is as nice as anywhere I have visited and on the west side of detroit is oakland county the 4th richest county in america

Plus it looks like those homes have been destroyed by fire. I'm guessing land value in the ghetto isn't much more than the demolition cost.

I did see on TV awhile back how foreclosed property in Detroit was selling for insanely low prices at property auctions though. So many foreclosers that there wasn't even enough vultures to swoop down and get them, so the prices were driven way down.

Not all of them man.. I raised the prices and checked some of the $10k to $30k homes. There are a lot of pretty decant looking houses on there. I mean hell even if they are in the poor sections of town, as long as it's not crack town seems like some money could be made in rentals.

Is it that bad there that no one is investing?

$15.00 a square foot for brick house and lot. Is this what happens when there is zero demand for houses? Owners can't sell, properety is worth less and less each year, no maintence gets done, etc .......

dude there was an 11 bedroom house for 30k..

There was another that was 6 bedrooms 6 bath 2 units plus a separate 3 car garage for 29k. It even said there was a "extra" room in the attic for a maid.

Detroit is actually a lot better than it used to be years ago. I go over all the time (from Canada) for Tiger + Lions games plus shopping and it safe. I'm not a gang banger so the chance of me getting killed in Detroit is highly unlikely, like most cites.

Detroit and St. Louis (north St. Louis) are thoroughly depressing. You go to certain areas in those cities and you are amazed that you are in America. I stayed at the supposed "nice" hotel in Detroit (Rennaisance Hotel) and the elevator smelled like piss. A friend of mine lives in North St. Louis, and when I visited the taxis wouldn't take me to his crib.

I flew a model in from there about five years ago. It was the longest day of my life. Rather get four root canals than go through another experience like that. You go to certain areas in those cities and you are amazed that you are in America. I stayed at the supposed "nice" hotel in Detroit (Rennaisance Hotel) and the elevator smelled like piss. A friend of mine lives in North St. Louis, and when I visited the taxis wouldn't take me to his crib. At least Compton has palm trees...
