Visa

So I got my IBill email, and I had looked into getting my own merchant account before, and now I want to do it.

However, are the rates on regular merchant accounts going up too? Or is this just 3rd party IBill, CCBill stuff that is getting affected?

I would like to note that I sell NON adult goods through my website.

I am freaking out here, please advise.

I tried calling my bank, tried calling my merchant center I am going to sign up for, they're all closed. It's saturday.

I just thought someone here would know. I have been following the threads pretty close but cannot recall ever reading about merchant account fees, not 3rd party stuff.

You've got great content, and seem to be a great businessman, but fuck man, I'm just asking a question if anyone could answer. I didn't force you to read my thread. If you are tired of reading about Visa stuff, why did you click on a thread called VISA.

I'm not running scared.

I just want a straight answer and noone is open today to answer it.

If merchant accounts went up $500 for the first year and $350 for the following years, I wouldn't mind. But I can't call anyone to confirm this.

I feel that if I invest some money here, a lot of my competition is going to drop, leaving me with a good situation.

Dusen,
I can't get a clear answer on this either. What I've seen of the "high risk" categories on a mainstream article leads me to believe that all online transactions are "high risk". I've asked straight out again and again; no one answers.
I have a merchant account and I also use 3rd-party processors for my mainstream stuff. I haven't heard a whisper of these Visa regulations from them; I've even called them and they said they didn't know anything about it.
So I'm just continuing as usual until I hear otherwise *from my processors* and *from my banks*, not 3rd-party information from the processors here who won't post the Visa documentation (not their re-types or quoting of it, but actual scanned files of the real paperwork with type large enough to read clearly) to backup what they're saying and their "interpretations" of it.

Every article, every "announcement" that you read has different info. I've seen nothing from Visa. Who are you to believe when everyone has a different story and the company that this is supposed to be all about is completely quiet?

I feel like quitting everything else and just posting galleries. That way I won't be affected by all this stuff.

When you open your own merchant account you will find that depending on what you say your business is about. The rates will vary. I believe we paid around $1200 total in fees to Visa Amex and MC but that includes the charge to open an" Adult Sales" merchant account. This was 2 years ago, i hear that Visa is now charging $1500 for on line high risk accounts, but i am not 100% sure that is true. I can only go from our experience.
Plus we pay about $65 per month in gateway charges and a % of each transaction which is different for Visa MC and AMEX. Oh and you will no longer be able to get AMEX for online porn they jumped ship about 2 years ago.
Hope that is of help, i don't have the paperwork in front of me so all this is from memory. At the moment we are still using Epoch and Globil, but maybe we will change to using our own account which up until now we only use for our content sales site.
This is for USA accounts

Makes things worst I imagine, since you gotta open up a US bizness now.

That is a great question. To be honest with you...I have not read any of the visa stuff because it does not concern me...from what I have been told. I am just tired of seeing all the visa titles.

I had to click one just to see what it was all about. Kinda makes one currious.

You were a victim of circumstance. Purely random, I assure you.

I don't want to charge in USD, only Canadian! That's why I didn't think I needed to setup US business.

Well contrary to what most people believe Visa is not the same company in each country. So far Visa in Europe has made no comments on what is going on in the USA. So i would say that each country will have different rules and charges. Also it will depend who you get to set up your account which in our case took 10 days for Visa, Amex MC . Discover took longer about 2 weeks i think.

No hard feelings. I'm acting irrationally now anyway.

Well bro this is one serious blow to the industry, read up man, it may have effects trickling down to anyone who uses Visa to process Adult material in some way.

Its more a Visa vs adult thing now. And since you provide the content paysites use, hehehe they may want to watch your business mroe too. Who knows, give it all a read.

Its a lot, but its definite cause for concern.
