Hosting people tell me what I need. please.

I can't figure out all these server specs and what they mean.

So here's what I want to do :

Put a site on the server that uses SSI on every page to execute a average speed script. I want it to handle 100k hits a day and burn 50-100 gigs a day.

Please tell me the specs of a server that can do this.

Please know what you are talking about because once I was told this by a hosting company and rented a server and the thing died with just one gallery
posted on the hun. I was better off on my shared box with more power.

Thanks

I have been saying that often, but the " bros " here say the only way to go is dedicated ....

The actual power of the server is most important. Afterwards, the availability of that power , if shared. Also, the apache config file must be tweaked to maximize the box and its full potential.

Anyway, bandwith you are at 1500 / 3000 gigs a month ... This means 5 mbps/ 10 mbps .
You need a decent amount of memory, probably 4 gigs would be OK. As for processor, a high power Core2 Duo ( or better Core2 Quad ) should handle the load.
As for disk, a raid setup would increase a bit the performance.
So, in your case, a dedicated is required.

How does Mbps relate to gigs? I'm used to keeping tracks of total gigs I use.

Well for a crude example without getting to in depth 1Mbps equals approx 320 gigs.

Sortie you can not go wrong by getting a server with TechieMedia. They simply rock to the nth degree. I've been with them many years and their level of support cannot be matched by anyone. Talk to Jim and I'm sure he can hook you up.
