So here's what I want to do :

Put a site on the server that uses SSI on every page to execute a average speed script. I want it to handle 100k hits a day and burn 50-100 gigs a day.

Please tell me the specs of a server that can do this.

Please know what you are talking about because once I was told this by a hosting company and rented a server and the thing died with just one gallery
posted on the hun. I was better off on my shared box with more power.

Thanks
I have been saying that often, but the " bros " here say the only way to go is dedicated ....

The actual power of the server is most important. Afterwards, the availability of that power , if shared. Also, the apache config file must be tweaked to maximize the box and its full potential.

Anyway, bandwith you are at 1500 / 3000 gigs a month ... This means 5 mbps/ 10 mbps .
You need a decent amount of memory, probably 4 gigs would be OK. As for processor, a high power Core2 Duo ( or better Core2 Quad ) should handle the load.
As for disk, a raid setup would increase a bit the performance.
So, in your case, a dedicated is required.
