Need a new vacuum... suggestions?

My last one fell to pieces. Just bought it in August! Any recommendations?

Under $200 please.

It's 6 months old and you're not going to return it for a warranty replacement?

Our one is about 18 months old and it stopped working... I opened it up and reseated a couple of connections and it seems to be going again. I wasn't very impressed with what I saw inside (eg a single screw holding down the circuit board, non locking connectors that slip out), they don't make them like they used to.

It was only $50. Arguing with somebody over a warranty on a $50 vacuum that I probably never should have bought in the first place does not sound like a fun afternoon.

Looking online... maybe I should up my budget to $300? I just don't want to spend $300 if the $300 machine is just as likely to break as the $200 machine.

My mum still has a vaccuum cleaner that she bought about 30 years ago... second hand!

Of course it's needed some maintenance over the years, but the overall cost is a fraction of what it would cost these days to throw away your broken vaccuum cleaner every few years.

I got this one for $89, has the same power as the more expensive ones, short of getting a Dyson or whatever.. I think it works great, does way better than my old one did, it's easy to empty, and I like that it isn't all clunky.. It stores exactly as you see it below, just pick it up, plug it in and push it

I have a dyson, and it is awesome. It's going to cost you more, but it's worth it, I think. I can't remember my models name, but it is the no pet version with a swivel ball.

Yeah, if you have any pets then the dyson is great. It picks up half a dog off the carpet every couple days.

The postings of you and a few others on another board are what convinced me to drop the cash for a dyson.

Every single vaccum cleaner listed in this thread are worthless. They don't clean, they just take the pile off your carpets.

Kirby is the only way to go. They work and they last forever.

We need to pick up a new one soon. One that is made for animals. Also need to pick up a steamer for the wood floors, those damn things are so hard to keep clean when you got a lab coming in and out all day

Consumer Reports always puts Hoovers and Eurekas on the top of their lists. That's what I've always used and have been happy. Dyson is usually at the bottom of their lists. They said the suction is consistent but it's consistently lower than the other vacuums.

Check craigslist for a used Dyson. I've seen a few go for under $200 and it'll be the best Vacuum you've ever had to buy.

I had to laugh at that too. If it wasn't for my dogs (the pug in particular) I would probably only have to vacuum once a month.

get a dyson period! I bought one 3 months ago and was the best investment I ever made. You won't believe what it picks up that normal vacuums, even other expensive ones, do. They are a little more expensive 400+ but it comes with a 5 year warranty and all models have all the bells and whistles! Trust me!

I have an Oreck and it sucks ass. I paid about $600 for the stupid thing. The only plus side is that it's really light, provided you change the fucking bags constantly.

Every time I go to Sam's they have Dysons sitting out everywhere. I'm probably going to buy one the next time I'm there and be done with it.

Do you have a Big Lots in SD? Someone told me the other day that they have refurbished Dysons pretty cheap with some kind of warranty. She said she got one over a year ago and has had no problems.

Dyson for 2 years bought one for mom and xmother in law like Mike did. I have a shepherd/husky and I fill the canister in just 1 room every 2 days from hair.

Before that had to buy a new vacuum about yearly.

Just by a Dyson so you never have to buy another vacuum again and the dirt actually gets picked up off your floors.

a $200 vacuum is a $50 vacuum you paid $150 too much for.
