It's 6 months old and you're not going to return it for a warranty replacement?

Our one is about 18 months old and it stopped working... I opened it up and reseated a couple of connections and it seems to be going again. I wasn't very impressed with what I saw inside (eg a single screw holding down the circuit board, non locking connectors that slip out), they don't make them like they used to.

Sly 01-30-2008 08:04 PM

It was only $50. Arguing with somebody over a warranty on a $50 vacuum that I probably never should have bought in the first place does not sound like a fun afternoon.

gornyhuy 01-30-2008 08:05 PM

I heard you can suck-start a leaf blower... why do you need a vacuum?

;)

da man 01-30-2008 08:07 PM

I have a bit crappy Dirt Devil but it does the job

Sly 01-30-2008 08:15 PM

Looking online... maybe I should up my budget to $300? I just don't want to spend $300 if the $300 machine is just as likely to break as the $200 machine.

tical 01-30-2008 08:18 PM

get a dyson!

My mum still has a vaccuum cleaner that she bought about 30 years ago... second hand! :winkwink:

Of course it's needed some maintenance over the years, but the overall cost is a fraction of what it would cost these days to throw away your broken vaccuum cleaner every few years.

F-U-Jimmy 01-31-2008 12:16 AM

Dyson is by far the best and most powerful and it designed in the UK so you know it will last

TidalWave 01-31-2008 12:37 AM

yeah but it costs like $600 doesnt it

cheekycherry 01-31-2008 02:30 AM

Roomba, stretch a little on price.

Sarah_Jayne 01-31-2008 03:27 AM

Not sure what Dysons cost in the States but they are the best I have used.

Socks 01-31-2008 03:35 AM

I got this one for $89, has the same power as the more expensive ones, short of getting a Dyson or whatever.. I think it works great, does way better than my old one did, it's easy to empty, and I like that it isn't all clunky.. It stores exactly as you see it below, just pick it up, plug it in and push it

PurrrsianPussyKat 01-31-2008 06:28 AM

I LOVE my dyson!!!!!!

amandaspost 01-31-2008 07:36 AM

I bought a Electrolux Oxygen Canister Vacuum about 2 years ago...no problems with it.

selena 01-31-2008 08:30 AM

I have a dyson, and it is awesome. It's going to cost you more, but it's worth it, I think. I can't remember my models name, but it is the no pet version with a swivel ball.

Sarah_Jayne 01-31-2008 08:37 AM

Yeah, if you have any pets then the dyson is great. It picks up half a dog off the carpet every couple days.

The postings of you and a few others on another board are what convinced me to drop the cash for a dyson. :)

macker 01-31-2008 09:22 AM

Every single vaccum cleaner listed in this thread are worthless. They don't clean, they just take the pile off your carpets.

Kirby is the only way to go. They work and they last forever.

cherrylula 01-31-2008 09:26 AM

Make sure to get the one with the fleshlight attachment. You won't be disappointed.

Sosa 01-31-2008 09:48 AM

We need to pick up a new one soon. One that is made for animals. Also need to pick up a steamer for the wood floors, those damn things are so hard to keep clean when you got a lab coming in and out all day

Peaches 01-31-2008 09:55 AM

Consumer Reports always puts Hoovers and Eurekas on the top of their lists. That's what I've always used and have been happy. Dyson is usually at the bottom of their lists. They said the suction is consistent but it's consistently lower than the other vacuums.

PhillipB 01-31-2008 10:09 AM

Just buy a dog!

candyflip 01-31-2008 10:17 AM

Check craigslist for a used Dyson. I've seen a few go for under $200 and it'll be the best Vacuum you've ever had to buy.

HAHAHAHA - what do you think I vacuum up? Dog hair :) The Roomba gave up after I got dog #4. She'd make it 1/2 way across the room and get full.

I had to laugh at that too. If it wasn't for my dogs (the pug in particular) I would probably only have to vacuum once a month.

sniperwolf 01-31-2008 10:45 AM

hahaha for some reason, vacuum does not really one of our necessity.. :upsidedow

get a dyson period! I bought one 3 months ago and was the best investment I ever made. You won't believe what it picks up that normal vacuums, even other expensive ones, do. They are a little more expensive 400+ but it comes with a 5 year warranty and all models have all the bells and whistles! Trust me!

Not worth the agrivation.

Michaelious 01-31-2008 11:44 AM

i agree hepa filter.

Holly 01-31-2008 12:48 PM

I have an Oreck and it sucks ass. I paid about $600 for the stupid thing. The only plus side is that it's really light, provided you change the fucking bags constantly.

Every time I go to Sam's they have Dysons sitting out everywhere. I'm probably going to buy one the next time I'm there and be done with it.

Do you have a Big Lots in SD? Someone told me the other day that they have refurbished Dysons pretty cheap with some kind of warranty. She said she got one over a year ago and has had no problems.

dready 01-31-2008 12:51 PM

Spend a little extra and get a Dyson. :)

Meeper 01-31-2008 01:02 PM

Dysons are the best but hella expensive for a vacuum

Karupted Charles 01-31-2008 01:12 PM

Dyson for 2 years bought one for mom and xmother in law like Mike did. I have a shepherd/husky and I fill the canister in just 1 room every 2 days from hair.

Before that had to buy a new vacuum about yearly.

Quagmire 01-31-2008 02:58 PM

Just by a Dyson so you never have to buy another vacuum again and the dirt actually gets picked up off your floors.

a $200 vacuum is a $50 vacuum you paid $150 too much for. :2 cents:
