(VIDEO) ADULT INSIGHTS: Is Internext a "must attend" event?

Adult Insights Ep 4 Video

Internext is next week. Are you going? Have you ever wondered what it would take to make it worth the expense? Watch as Vegas Ken from The Best Porn, HoneLynn from High Def Riches, Jim from Almighty Content, Benoit from Express Pro, Media Guy from 2Much, Monty from AVN, Jay D from Crazyshit, Kevsh the webmaster and Kenny B from IA Cash weigh in. Following that, we find out who would like to fight the likes of Lawrence Connor, the entire Silvercash team, Rochard, Hammer, Briana Banks and Tito Ortiz.

And special thanks to Yappo Dollars for their support.

"Is Internext a "must attend" show for webmasters looking to build their businesses?"

Ken: Absolutly... it's still the granddaddy of all shows.
HoneyLynn: I haven't been to an internext show in years... I'm still here.
Jim: If you are looking to do business with the largest companies, then Internext are some of the best shows.
Benoit: For big webmasters... smaller webmasters would do better to attend the smaller shows.
MediaGuy: It's a great launching platform for business that have attained a certain level.
Monty: Some people only come out to the Internext shows and you'll want to be there if you want to do business with them..
Jay: The only reason I'll go is to see friends.
Kevsh: If you want to meet a lot of different people and get a taste of the industry, sure.
Kenny B: No show is a must attend event... but if you work hard, you'll benefit from whatever show you go to.

So, is Internext a "must attend" show for webmasters looking to build their businesses?

there are webmasters doing SEO and earning $30k+ per month who never went to any trade show... or don't even follow the boards for that matter

I just wonder if any of them started in the last year or so. The landscape seems to be changing.

dont think so, i was referring to older webmasters

although i see no reason why someone good at SEO cant enter the industry right now and make bank

IMO the industry is changing (some even say dying) but people who are truly good at SEO arent seeing these changes to such extent as the gallery submitters, TGP owners etc

anyway, my point was that shows arent really needed for anything. If you have good traffic, you can send tens of sales daily to a reputable company and the need to 'know them personally' is exaggerated.. IMO

Sure, I can see that from an SEO perspective. But if you're a fairly new webmaster, looking to build your links, it has to help get your foot in the door with people if you're sitting across the table from them having a drink.

I can't tell the difference between Jim from X Bucks or Sarah from Y Cash if we're just trading ICQs. However, if I've had a drink with them and can remember who they are (a very important part of the equation), I think I go out of my way to help them when it comes to doing business where I might not for just another messed up business proposition. Internext certainly gives you face time with a lot of people... as long as you can put all the pieces together after the show is over.

Tell them to contact me please, I need to talk to them

Every show is what you make of it but I do think the Vegas shows tend to be more partying than any, for obvious reasons... it's VEGAS!

It's all about making that connection though and following up after

What I was saying in that interview is that smaller guys can't really afford to use Internext as a launching platform, to make that splash big enough to be noticed at such a big show.

The Florida show is really a "must attend once to see if you can work it" event - even if you're a small guy, it's just like an adult professional village with everyone talking and willing to talk all the time, and the option to NOT got to big boomboom parties at night...

Whereas Vegas to me seemed more spread out, the parties less network-oriented and more party-boom-boom based, the kind of environment where mostly the BIG companies with the bucks to spend to make an impression could actually profit.

The SEO market has changed quite a bit, especially the PPC market. Quality has dropped, conversions have gotten worse and its not improving anytime soon...

If you are a new program or company, you should DEFINITELY attend to start branding your company and making useful contacts and connections.

If you are already established, many attend to keep their status quo. Others, don't need to as much so it really depends on if they feel it can bring them much new business or not.

nice video

Because Im new to the north american industry the few events I have attended so far are worth it,the reason is meeting someone on a one on one basis, chatting with them even if its only for a few minutes makes the connection of a name to a face as you mentioned before and can only help someone who works online stand a better chance of doing business together.

Would you prefer to do biz with a total stranger or someone that you have at least met once. ?

So yes attending a few expos or events is important and if it wasnt for networking I would have never met you doug keep up the good work

Hands down! A lot of the people I spoke with about Internext seemed worried that "the little guy" would get lost in the shuffle. Isn't that what business cards are for? As long as you bring a stack with you and, more importantly, can keep a hold of other people's cards, you should be golden at Internext...

By the way, Happy New Years Christina, to you and everyone at the shop ;)

Shows are great because you get to put a face to an icq name and you have a chance to party a bit.
They are a lot of fun but definitely not necessary to be successful in the industry. There are a lot of people who have never been to any shows and are very successful. On the other hand, there are people who have made tons of money almost solely because they go to the shows, so I guess it depends on what kind of work you do.

Being part of the team that puts this show together makes me a bit biased - but for me personally show are invaluable way to make long lasting relationships, make new contacts and meet new potential business partners. Nothing replaces "face time".

Many people are saying a shows are what you make of it - 100% true. If you are going to only party, you will come out of show with a hangover and not much else. If you go i with a plan, meetings scheduled - your show experience will pay back in spades.

I get business done at EVERY show I attend.

Looking forward to seeing most of you in Vegas and Miami for those who can't make it.

You'll have to teach me your ways... my last couple have been very productive, but they were hit and miss before that. Scheduling people really helped. It's hard to meet people when your plan is to see them at the bar.

Happy new year to you too doug hope to see you around in 2008.

1 idea some of you might want to consider for expos is to have your face on your business card.

I took the idea from real estate agents, apart from myself I saw braincash pat and the crew at xxxbiztv doing just this.
When I got back from LA i had all these cards a few faces on them would have really helped.

Is that a good idea?

Hi -

It's fun to hang out at the circle bars of any trade show, talk shop and make new friends, but unless you follow up on any leads to gather, you have wasted your time.

I love the Internext show in Miami, but costs are going out of control. Nobody wants to pay $8.00 for a bottle of water, $45.00 for a Buger & Fries (Room Service), or $80.00 for a pitcher of Pina Coladas. When you bring your content with you to a show, those pictures go fast, believe me.

The small / Medium size shows like Xbiz, Webmaster Access, and especially Qwebec Expo are the best for us. There's more emphesis on doing business, and events tend to be more targeted. Also, booths, inserts and other promo materials are much less expensive making it easier for the little guys to be noticed.

If you do plan on going to the big shows, it helps to have an agenda. Use sites like AdultWhosWho.com to find out who else is going and set up meetings in advance. A little structure will pay off.

Finally, sleep! You will need your energy to party at night, and to stay awake the next morning at the seminars.

Happy Tradeshowing!

I saw Claire's card... I think it's a perfect idea. The only thing you'd bump up against are those not wishing to stamp an adult brand on their face. That's something real estate agents just don't have to contend with. ;)

Well, I'm sure bringing content can be expensive, but I think a sales team may be worse. They seem to be the biggest party people--plus they're buying for clients. ;) hehe

I'm surprised that you say booths are better at smaller shows. They always seem so... lonely??? when compared with the bigger events. I'd expect you'd have to pull off a few miracles to make it worth your time.

Hi Christina! Hope to see you at the show.

Regarding your idea, I just got cards made up with my big ass picture from adult who's who on it, so everyone can remember me. It's a great idea!

Do you have to attend Internext to prosper? No.

Will it help you a lot of you go there with your business hat on instead of your party clothes? Absolutely.

There are so many faces that come to the US only for Internext. If you set meetings, and go with a few goals in mind you will defiinitely come out better than you went in.

Of course it is also totally possible to go to these huge shows and accomplish nothing so it is really up to the individual and their level of motivation.

I use my toon on my card and has worked wonders, especially at the mainstream shows where not everyone knows/recognizes me.

My card holder is well received also.

That's a quality toon... and an interesting way to do a pic without using a photo. That would leave an impression... and that's what counts.

Also, can you please forward me the number of your business card holder supplier? I appear to be in need...

I attend as many mainstream shows as adult (maybe more now that I think about it), and in the beginning, no one had a clue who I was. Now I can go to shows and people remember me as "the guy with the cool card." Even during followup phone calls they ask if I am the guy with the toon.

One guy at Ad Tech NYC immediately recognized my card as someone else at his company had shown it to everyone in the office and it had been declared the best.

Definitely did its job as far as branding is concerned.

Shows are good as long as you make effective use of your time. In most cases business is 50% what you know, and 50% who you know, and dont forget, all work and no play can make you dull!

Great Video, by the way, Doug

When myself and the girls got back from the LA show out of the cards sitting on our desk, guess whos card and face stood out from the rest !

Yep it was Baddogs

so the bottom line is get a biz card with a toon or photo on it (I already have one ) and make all that networking even more profitable

I'll be asking DH after Vegas if you were able to keep that 50/50 ratio in check ;)
