ever heard of being canned by a credit card company for paying your balance in full?

Im a bit suspicious of chase, I have an airline card which I put all my expenses on each month and pay in full. All of a sudden, the card is being declined. I call several times and they tell me it works, but it doesn't. So today, about the 7th time Ive called and was told there is no problem, their solution is to send me a new card and they can't figure it out.

So, is it possible for the card itself to simply be bad or is this something else?

I pay all my cards in full every month and have never had an issue.

I was placing an online order during Christmas at a big website and for some reason it kept telling me I was using the wrong CCV. Since I was looking at the card, I knew that was wrong. I used another card and it went through fine.

Come to think about it, the card I was having trouble with was with Chase. Hmmmm.....now I want to try to buy something and see if it goes through ;)

I have an airline card thru chase as well . . . no problems to date and I have it set up to automatically pay the balance in full. They seem to like that.

Ive used the card at my own terminal to test, its simply declined. Ive had them on the phone while trying to use it and they tell me they can't figure out why which seems like BS.

Can I offer you a server? That would be a good test.

Well, I was going to suggest the strip, but I figured he already tried manually using it.

I heard about this on money shows, they are saying if you pay your card in full that your the "dead beat"

I use to pay my card in full when i first got it not sure how I was able to do that 5 years ago, but now Ia m carrying a balance every month, and paying ridiculous fees, when I call td visa they tell me it would be a good idea to at least pay 90$ a month.

when I worked at amex they trained us to get the customer to pay the card in full each month depending on the type of card they have.

so I guess it depends on the type of card you have

A winter coat has limited use. A server can be used 24/7/365 for years and years.

I broke down and bought make up ;) Chase card went through fine BUT I wasn't asked for the CCV.

Sorry Baddog - if a server could give me a natural blush on my cheeks, we could have had a deal

It's funny - even though I pay the cards in full they up my limits all the time. I guess they figure eventually I'll take a trip around the world, put it on the card and pay interest on it. The one card I overpaid by accident they sent me a check to cover the overpayment - that was Citi.

I believe there is something in the latest Apache release that would take care of that.

Credit Card companies refer to people who pay their balance in full each month as "freeloaders"
If you are earing miles or other rewards in addition to using their money for free for a month they really don't like that.

This may or may not have anything to do with your current situation, but that is the way these companies think.

Ha, this is true - Americans are supposed to carry large balances at 19%

Seriously though, Chase and Citi have very aggressive fraud monitoring on their cards - if you are buying tickets and making reservations and purchases online it looks to the computers as if you are moving all over the country and they will shut the card down immediately until they reach you by the phone on file or you call in because you were declined.

In November I charged breakfast in Fort Lauderdale, coffee and snacks in Phoenix on my layover, and when I checked into the show hotel at Webaccess LA I was declined until I called in and assured them the card was in my possession and all was cool

With Chase, that exact thing happened to me. Both online purchases and my automatically deducted internet fee. Interesting.

its weird but people are considered bad if they pay credit cards off every month.

Years ago I was traveling when my car engine burned out a rod. I had the mechanic shop install a new engine and the bill was around $2,500 and I paid with a cc. I paid the card off in full when I received the bill but was charged interest the following month on a zero balance. I called the cc company and asked them why...on a zero balance...I was charged interest. I was told because I paid the balance in a single payment and that they required a minimum of two payments to pay off a balance. I said bullshit and that I would not pay interest on a zero balance...they then went into a long spiel about how I would then be charged late charges which would begin to snowball...etc. I went ahead and paid the interest on a zero balance and then had the card cancelled. I learned in later years that cancelling a cc has adverse affects upon ones credit score. They kind of have you by the balls one way or another.

Several years back I cancelled all of my credit cards. I now just use my ATM card (which also acts as a Visa card) if I need to purchase something on line. Other than that I always pay cash for whatever I choose to purchase.
