Yahoo Directory Listing, worth the $600?

Are the yahoo directory listings, i.e. http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Ec...lleries/Coeds/ worth the $600 it costs to have them reviewed and MAYBE accepted?

Most of the people I have talked to, say it not worth it. I did have one guy that had a small very spefic niche site say it was good...But for most I would say go buy $600 worth of TGP listings, you would be better off...;)

Supposedly they surf your site with a 28K modem on a mac and if it's ok you get in..otherwise no dice..no 600

I got listed in a yahoo directory without paying and it's meant about 80-100 hits a day, so not worth it.

Maybe you can submit your site to Jane's Directory instead.

This is 1 of the biggest scams on the net. A non refundable, no questions asked, pre paid $600.00 Scam.... and even if you are 1 of the chosen few that get listed just so they can justify their scam, the traffic is not worth the $600.00 you paid.

Just my 2 cents

I always figured the 2 PR points would be enough to justify the 600 bucks, assuming you're trying to get SE traffic in a big way.

Give me an example of an adult site with a PR of 6. We have a 4 already.. I can find 5's but no 6's.

It depends on your niche, the keywords you're trying to target, the number of competitors, what you are selling on your site and how you are selling it.

There was a time when it was totally worth it, but the value of a yahoo directory listing has gone down substantially.

To put in one site alone might not be worth it, but to put in a few sites as part of a general strategy is usually worth it.

It's not hard to get listed. Just use brand new content, about a hundred pics, and don't do anything tricky or fancy.

Exactly. It's worth the money to my company. The trick is getting keywords into the title/description without their editors shortening it. And even if you get only 100 hits per day, that works out to 36500 hits per year. If you can make 15 sales per year on those hits, you break even ($40/signup sponsor). The rest is just profit. Then you got exit windows (try to keep just 1 or Yahoo will delist you), and a few other techniques to boost the money up there.

It is worth it, but you can't make too much with one listing, you need at least a dozen or so to make your ROI count.

PR = PageRank. System of measurement on Google. Calculations are very complex, quick way to tell is download the Google search bar and visit your site. There will be a green bar that will indicate from 0-10 what your PR is. Anything over 5 in the adult biz is great.

It's not a one time fee, it's $600 per year.
Or have they changed it back?

Dude, I've got 2 sites listed with yahoo. SweetCuties.com just got accepted and I'll have Melinda's site listed soon. If you've got a good converting site, it's worth it... $600 is nothing for a year. Plus, it's a write-off

if you pay the 600 bucks to be in a category which has a few sites only (20-50) then you'll cover the $600 quickly.
if you pay to be in a category that has more than 50 sites, then it will be tough. the first week you get listed, you are at the top of the list with a little "new" next to your site's name: good traffic for 7 days, then after 7 days; you are listed alphabetically (not so good traffic anymore).
the good thing about yahoo listing is that it will better your other search engine's listings.
as far as the bullshit people are saying about the 600 bucks and how tough it is to get in: BULLSHIT
if you submit a site with no illegal shit, in the right category and with no pop up and consoles and other "tricks" then you'll get in the first time

Yahoo is the king of fucking over adult webmasters.
The listing is worth the cash as long as they dont delete your category or change their rules ( which seems to happen alot ).

From
http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Ec...x/Directories/

Presumably if ASS got a yahoo listing, thats where it would be.

janesguide.com PR 7

adulteverything.com PR 6
bluewavelinks.com PR 6
link-o-rama.com PR 6
penisbot.com PR 6
persiankitty.com PR 6
tommys-bookmarks.com PR 6
richards-realm.com PR 6

A Yahoo listing might be good for your ASS.

Unless Google and Yahoo part ways in the next year, that is.

I heard a looksmart paid listing does 4x better than yahoo. But this is coming from the guy who paid for 2 sites to get listed on yahoo, and had ONE rejected.

Paid Yahoo listsing are VERY MUCH worth it... IF you know how to work it. If you don't then don't waste your money or your time...

Howdy,

I have a couple sites listed there, I never paid a cent. It brings me about 100 uniques per day per site. How much traffic can a paid listing bring a run of the mill free site?

One more thing, I have the google tool bar, its got just the green rank line, there are no numbers. I looked at the options, cant seen to find an option that shows ranking in a number value. Anyone?

regards,
Ray

Put your mouse pointer over the page rank part of the bar and it will list the rank in a tool tip window

Considering looksmart only charges a per click fee now and doesn't accept porn listings, i'd be surprised to see this :-)
