:stop Anyone here consider X-mas a religious holiday?

I mean really...It was a pagan holiday, Yule (among others), Adapted by Christianity because people wouldn't stop practicing and let's face it, they can't burn everyone as a witch.

And nowadays...it's just a big capitalistic way to drain funds from what's left of the middle class to the upper class that's running the country. To keep the sheep occupied while they run their agenda of keeping everyone in control.

At this stage it's just a fun thing for the kids, a tradition. At least to me. And, I'm not even sure how much fun it is for them anymore anyway. All the fun, all the life has been sucked out of the holiday, with gift cards given instead of actual gifts, I don't see how they can believe in Santa when they get all the latest technology from bestbuy, and now they want to stop Santa from saying HO HO HO because it degrades WOMEN??? Are you fucking kidding me? no more delicately strung up lights anymore, lazy fucks just plug in giant blowup Santa's and hook up pre-strung light icicles in an easy to snap on strip. Not to mention the crowds, and the lines, and the traffic. Who needs it? Ba-hum-bug! kids are getting the short end these days.

But I digress. Anyone see it as a religious holiday anymore?

Thoughts?

Buddhism, but I'm not a hardliner or anything. I keep my spirituality and beliefs close and don't really go for the whole organized religion thing. My beliefs just fit most closely into Buddhism (which really is a philosophy more than a religion anyway)

Guess I need to study that more, never knew they called their ministers reverends.

Of course, I did not know they called them ministers either.

It's actually against the rules for Christians to celebrate anything that wasn't ok'd by Jesus, so to celebrate Christmas as a Christian is some big word I don't want to look up cuz I am leaving to go workout.

Well it's actually llama but as far as the law is concerned it's ordained minister or reverend. It's just a more recognizable title.

Actually the reason I did it (I know I may draw criticism) was to placate my Christian In-laws who felt the children should be baptized. I became legally ordained and had a very basic Buddhist welcoming/cleansing ceremony and that made everyone happy. I know it defies logic, but hey. Sometimes you do what ya gotta do. Plus it's kinda cool that I can marry people and such. Why not?

Their feeling that was although it wasn't a true baptism, it was a cleansing of sorts by a legal man of the cloth (so to speak) and so god would forgive them and they wouldn't burn in hell. it may be crazy, but you know how some people are.

Maybe the next time we get together at a show, I'll throw you a little blessing ;)

I HATE those blowup things people put out in their yard. They look okay when they are in use, but during the day light hours they look like huge used condoms laying all over the place.
