Backing up a website;
What is the best way to back up a website on a server do you think?
Host it on another server? Save it all to another harddrive? Whats the most effective and safe way do you think |

You can just write a small shell script which uses cp to copy your wwwroot to another location (drive) and dump your MySQL tables w/ the mysqldump command.
Or, if you have a fast connection from one server to another you can write a small shell script which uses scp (secure copy) to copy your wwwroot to another server, dump your MySQL tables and scp them, then run the backed up sql code to insert the database on the new server Eventually you can use cron to do it daily or so. Your host should be able to set it up, its just a couple of lines. |

Most Control Panels have a built in backup solution, so that would do the job pretty well. I've written a bash script for my servers to copy everything important to another server. That works too till the day when all my servers have a HD failure at the same time
