Playboy magazine circulation today compared to 10 years ago...

Playboy magazine circulation today compared to 10 years ago...

What do you think the overall Playboy circulation is like.... today?

As compared to a pre-mainstream Internet time? like say...10 years ago.

Thanks

When I was a little boy I couldn't wait till I was 18 to get a subscription but honestly never found a reason to EVER buy a playboy when the internet got so big. Luckily I moved and got cable around the time I turned 18 ;)

The U.S. circulation for Playboy in 1995 was ~3.5 million. In 2005 it was ~3.2 million.

that's still admirable considering how much more competition they got, internet, cable tv etc..

I am guessing less because the magazine isn't very good anymore.

That's actually pretty good in the face of a widening media market.

Playboy doesn't sell copies, my opinion, because it has the hottest chicks, though there are plenty of them. It's the total package.

It sells for the groundbreaking articles (they are constantly on the edge from a journalistic standpoint), and other content. It appeals to a certain generation and lifestyle, even if only as a fantasy.

I do think it is more of a nostalgia thing, though, that will fade fast in the next decade or so, unless they find a way to reinvent themselves.

The younger generations are not loyal to Playboy in the way some of the original customers are and will be. But when they are gone, and particularly when HEF is gone, I think it will be over.

Just my opinion. . .

The biggest issue ever for Playboy was a Nov 1972 edition which sold 7.1 million. Average circulation at peek was 4.5 mill. Now stands at 3 mill. Might not seem too bad considering, except of course the adult male population has increased by over 50% since PlayBoys peek circulation.

Prob down just like every other print publication in the US. Newspapers and magazines are dying no matter what type they are. Advertisers are turning else where and not spending as much on print ads.

They sell because they talk about the trends. The porn is just a bonus.

And I wonder about this.

No question you are right, but I wonder about the effectiveness of the advertising.

A lot of people get a "perceived value" from actually holding a magazine or newspaper in their hands. I don't know why, but the weight of the publication seems to lend a sense of value to the item itself. . . and to the advertising.

The old axiom. . . It was in the newspaper, therefore it must be true.

And that perception carries over to the advertisements inside.

So, I wonder if a banner ad on a net page carries the same conviction for the viewer.

Time will tell, but there is also a general mindset that "anyone" can advertise on a website. Given the amount of press and publicity to scams online, I don't think net advertising carries the same weight (yet) of print advertising.

A few years from now, I suspect it will change and most people will be inclined to trust web ads as much or more than traditional print ads. But only if we see a decline in scams, or at least, a decline in PR coverage of scams.

There is still something much better about having the magazine in your hands and actually enjoing it, rather than seeing it online. For me at least. I hope they don't end the magazine.

Yeah because when you jack off all over the centerfold you can just throw the mag away. You can really fuck up your monitor jacking off on it.

It's gone down even more since two years ago - it's being adjusted down again to 2.6 million ... see article link for detals...

http://publications.mediapost.com/in... art_aid=68573

If things don't improve soon, Playboy could possibly join the long list of dead magazines at Magazine Deathpool

I think the magazine will stay. The brand still carries alot of clout. Having your article published in playboy is still the stuff alot of writer's wet dreams are made of.

because lots of people are now engaged to internet which you can easily do everything you want. just a click you can see nude pictures, sexiest actress or pornstars. if you want to see movies and videos, you can always have it on net. magazine is not as popular like before, like playboy though it's still existing, the sale and contents can easily grab because of more high tech.

Always preffered Penthouse over Playboy - harder pics (I remember Nikki Tyler beeing a pet of the month - that had to be like in 95 ...) and the read was good too.

International numbers would actually interest me too..

Still WAY less practical lobotomy and idiocracy than Esquire or such magazines these days..
