yes, congrats! and what he said: don't forget your fruits and veggies. they contain the fiber needed to break down the protein and carbs.

these are some other creative low fat snacks/meals that have lots of veggies in them, and hardly any fat:

thai lettuce wraps
spring rolls
grilled veggies (with balsamic vinegar and a tbsp of olive oil and garlic, salt/pepper)
greek salad (all veggies, no lettuce)
yogurt and fruit
pho (vietnemese)

good luck! once you start eating healthy and exercising for a while, it gets easier...in fact, it almost gets addicting.

haha yeah he used to drink more, but since he's been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes he's toned it down.

And yes, I do have a gps locator on him so I know where he is at all times. (kind of kidding)

It's all good. I'm actually trying to quit again too. I always try to quit everything at once and since this girl was just kind enough to dump me (I relate sex, booze, cigs, etc.), I think I can do it again for a few weeks anyway.

In fact I just bought another box of nicotine patches and the check out girl was laughing cause I bought a pack of smokes with them (and a little booze) explaining to her that I couldn't do it today but I plan on it tomorrow or the next day and want to have the patches ready

Good move, Keith. Personally, I've given up alcohol for over a decade now. I used to be in a fraternity in college and was pretty much drunk every day of college. LOL

Sounds like you really did your research Varius.

I'm basically doing the same shit. Been doing it for years.

Used to be a fat fuck. But that's 80 pounds ago. ;)

Good luck with the new lifestyle. You'll like it better once you've gotten used to it.

And that won't take long.

Trust me.

3 months ago almost to the day, I made a lifestyle change. I no longer eat red meat, pork and I only eat chicken/turkey if it's mixed into something. I no longer can eat chunks of meat, as I personally am turned off by it now.

I weight train 4 days a week (isolated groups 3 days, and circuit on the 4th), I do 30-45 mins on the elliptical machine 5 days a week and I monitor my diet closely. I consume no more than 1840 calories a day (this include 6 meals a day), I drink no less than 8 glasses of water a day. Most of my caloric intake is fruits, veggies, bean and soy based products, fish and grains.

To make a long story short, I went from 188 lbs to 159. Not only am I dropping weight, but I am putting the muscle on. Sure our approach is a bit different, but if you stick to this, you'll be in amazing shape within a few months. I can only imagine what a full year of training like this will do for me.
people that are really serious about actually getting fit should clone this sort of regimen.

fact is, staying in shape long term requires real effort and only 2-5% will be able to do it long term.

people need to understand that manufactured food in the civilized world is created for profit---focus groups and market testers make food that TASTE GOOD so you will buy it.

the foods that are the best for your body usually don't taste as good as dreyer's ice cream.

so more than anything else, it is a WILL POWER thing to stay healthy.

You would think that by now science would come up with ways to make your favorite junk foods become healthy while retaining the same flavor...it's kind of odd they haven't yet. I suppose they can't get it done cheaply enough to be profitable.

Well I don't think it'll be too hard...I'm not trying to follow some strict diet, I just made some general changes. I thought the eating 5-6 meals a day would be the hardest thing, but when two of them are GNC 50g slam drinks, makes it quite easy actually. Stopping to eat at night has also been easier than I thought it would be, probably as the result of eating more often in the day and high protein.
