Great Twist on New York Strip Steak
I confess...the idea for this idea came from a steak I had at Applebees some time ago...but the "recipe" is something I just made up last night.
It really isn't a recipe at all...just a really easy way to spice up a steak. Ingredients: 1 can or jar of mushroom slices 1 can beef gravy Dash of cracked black pepper (trust me...this goes a long way) Blue Cheese crumbles New York Strip Steak (or any other steak for that matter) How simple can this be... Combine mushrooms, gravy and black pepper in a small saucepan and bring to a bubble...then just let it simmer for a few minutes. Grill the steak. (I like to coat my steaks with an ample sprinkling of Montreal Steak Seasoning...and it works really well with this recipe) When the steak is done...cover it with blue cheese crumbles. For me that means so much blue cheese that you can't even see the steak any more...lol. Then, using a slotted spoon, cover the blue cheese with mushrooms from the mushroom and gravy mix. Now then...I also made some dynamite garlic/parmesan toast to go with it...and that was very simple also. Real butter works best...so coat your french bread with a heavy layer of softened butter. Sprinkle with a heavy coat of garlic powder (not garlic salt). Sprinkle with parmesan cheese...heavily. (I prefer freshly shredded parmesan...it has so much more flavor...but don't bother with the pre-shredded packs...they are barely better than the canned stuff). Lastly sprinkle with parsley flakes to make it look pretty. I recommend baking instead of broiling, unless you like the parmesan to get crispy. Just keep an eye on it and when the edges start to brown, yank it out. That's it for today...but watch your local cable network for the premier of "Bart's cooking for lazy dudes who like to make interesting stuff from whatever they have laying around". (I'm not sure if that will be the title...it's a little long..lol

Instead of that steak seasoning. try using kosher salt. Not toooo much. Sprinkle it on, and then rub it in a bit with your fingers, and then throw them on the grill.

mmmmm...that sounds good. i already do the bleu cheese on top of my steaks, but i'm gonna try the mushrooms and gravy as well. i want to go to the store right now...i think i'll try that tonight for dinner!

Sounds good. I wouldn't do it with a Ribeye, but for a more inexpensive strip or sirlion, that sounds about right.
Presented with a pretty sweet deal, I decided to go ahead and try Omaha Steaks for the first time, and expect a bunch of meat come Monday... will have to try something similar one night soon. Thanks for the idea. ![]()

come back and comment on those Omaha Steaks, please. I have tried steaks from similar vendor's but have always been dissapointed. Either the price is just ungodly...$20/lb or more...or they cheat on certain things like the hamburgers...making them from dogmeat or something.

Is this a new idea to some people? Minus the Blue Cheese crumbs, thats how I've done for years.
A little extra flavor to add while sautee'ing the mushrooms is to add red pepper flakes and red wine vinegar. Smells like shit but goddamn does it taste good.
