Even tho I'm not an american, the biggest shock of my life was the 11 of the September, 2001. When even I, didn't believe how a humans can do such thing.
Another shock for me is that the US didn't much understand what the Islam is and what they has to do against it

I was engaged to the only lass I've ever been in love with and was posted to Germany (Air Force). Post arrives just after lunch and there's always a big scramble for your mail. I got mine and sat down in the tea-bar with about 50 guys and recognised the writing on one of my letters from my fiancee so opened that one first. My engagement ring fell out. I looked up to find there was no-one in the tea-bar all of a sudden. Then I got drunk for about 6 months.

Standing in an airport newsagents waiting in line for a packet of crisps as I was flying over to Belfast to see my sick mum - my uncle rang me to tell me she'd died.

I was stationed in Guam, 1997, Korean Flight 801 Crashes. I'm on Watch that night, well going on watch to relieve another person. As I sign into watch everyone's face is white as a ghost and there's silence and a radio speaking of a devastating crash. I was on watch for 48 hours that night. And most of us had to go out and pick up pieces of human flesh from the wreckage.

Good shock: when my fiancee proposed to me
Bad shock: when my best friend died in a car accident in high school and September 11th.

This is one sad fucking thread.

1) Finding my mom after her suicide attempt and reading the note.

2) Getting a call from my dad telling me that my grandfather shot himself.

3) The day my parents told me they were getting divorced.

This is the saddest thread I've ever read.

I feel for you all.

It makes me realize how fortunate I've been though. I haven't had a perfect life, of course, but I've been pretty lucky...

The biggest shock for me was Christmas three years ago.

My wife and I had just been married, and we went down to her parents house for Christmas. After all of the presents had been opened, my wife made a big deal about "one last present". She made sure everyone was paying attention, and that Dad had the video camera rolling.

She handed me a small wrapped package that was hidden. As I opened it I discovered it was a book; It was one of the dummies books with it's bright yellow color.

The book was pregnancy for dummbies. My wife was going to have a baby. She knew for over a month and didn't tell a soul.

I was stunned.

Now we have a beautiful healthy two year old daughter. I couldn't imagine life without her.

A week in intensive care courtesy of my heart seemed like a salutary experience at the time. But it was nothing compared to learning that my daughter had a brain tumor. That turned into two years of watching her suffer and just one piece of bad news after another.

Damn Lawrence. What medications are you taking to keep things under control. I'm trying to find out so if you ever have one of your episodes at the upcoming conference I'll know what your taking so I'll bring enough to help you out. Don't want you going postal on us honey.

hmm..not sure why I am saying this here and I am sure I will regret it but I would say the day that I it became certain that I wasn't going to be able to have kids.

I have polycystic ovaries and was going through fertility treatment for about a year and nothing had worked. My doctor and I made the decission to go for IVF treatment and when I got to the hospital I never got to see a doctor. The nurse took one look at me and said the doctor wouldn't treat me because I was too big (look at the BBW part of my tag..yes I am losing slowly).

It wasn't that the treatment wouldn't work, it most likely would but that they just didn't give it to women my size. All she offered in comfort was to ask 'Do you eat chocolate, is that your problem?' If she knew anything about polycystic she would have known that is helps to cause the weight .

So, after sitting in the waiting room staring at pics of twins they were responsible for I had the treatment with in my reach and then had the carpet taken from under my feet. Was the worst day of my life.

Being homeless the summer between my junior and senior years in high school.

holding a screwdriver in a 7AL MSD ignition box thinking that the coil was bad. Then having a buddy turn the key when he shouldn't have. I got a big shock then jumped up and hit my head on the hood of the truck. Not only was I shocked half to death, but I also had a huge gash in the top of my head from the hood of the truck.

My B-Day is also nov. 18

Most shocking was finding out my brother had been beaten for at least a week and having him die a month later from his wounds and the one witness that could prove that the fucken pigs did it just got up and left two weeks before the court hearing. She hasnt been found since.

I lived on my own when I was 15 and had to work in a town 150 miles away from my family with complete stangers. My dad left my mom so I went to work in the fields to help out my mom.

Going on a crime spree when I was 15 with two friends. First, we stole a 1979 honda civic (or something like that, I didn't know my cars very well back then). Then, after taking a corner to fast in that, we spun out and couldn't get it started again. We jumped out and ran through some bushes into a neighborhood. We were still dying to get some action in before dawn (it was damn near 3 am), so we piled into a toyota and managed to get it started. As we started the car, the owner came sprinting out of his front door with an axe. He looked pretty pissed, so we were lucky to get away from him. We drove as fast as humanly possible trying to get away and leave the car somewhere. I turned into a shopping mall and was going to pull up behind it when a I notice a cop shadowing me from about 200 yards back. I stop and he stops. I just know he's calling for backup. Not knowing what else to do, I turned around and started driving towards him (it was a deadend). I pulled up along side him and he rolled down his window, I figured he didn't know the car was stolen. He starts opening his door and I panicked. We took off.

A few minutes later, I was in some foreign neighborhood again flying around curves and almost crashing on several corners trying to find a good place to hide. The cop was about 100 yards behind us, and we didn't know if we should give up, keep driving, or get out and try to get away on foot.

I was going about 130 kmh (80 mph) along the road, coming to a stop sign that I didn't see. A cop pulls into the intersection and stops, so I swerve at the last second, go up over the curb, slide sideways across some poor guys yard, fly over the other curb and back onto the street and hit a parked car. Surprisingly enough, the car was still running. I backed up and took off again. I got out of the neighborhood and back onto the main city streets. After driving around for another 20 minutes with two cops on me, another cop comes out from a sidestreet. I knew by then that we had no chance of getting away, but we figured we might as well enjoy our freedom as long as possible. I was going along some street at about 140 kmh (95 mph), and the cops started to back off, I guess they figured I was going to fast to risk chasing any longer.

Needless to say, they weren't chasing us anymore, but a helicopter was . Apparently, some guys wanted for attempted murder were also suspected to be in the area, and they thought we were them. We got onto the freeway and I pushed down hard. I can't remembre what kind of car it was, but we managed to get to about 190 kmh (about 115 mph) along the freeway.

To be honest, we were looking for an underground parking or something to run off in. I got off the freeway in downtown and continued along the streets at about 120 kmh (70 mph). I was going to try and make a hard turn into a mall parking lot and try to loose the helicopter that way, but I didn't slow down enough. The car slid sideways, hit the outside curb of the entrance to the parking lot, and we rolled over onto the roof.

I broke my thumb, but my friends just ran off and left me. Some friends they were.

The police arrested me, and, not wanting to dissapoint them, told them where my bastard friends lived.

They let me off because I had no priors, but my friends had stolen cars before. They said that if I had been alone, they would have charged me, but they wanted my two friends for a string of car thefts....

I'm such a rat.

Oh, hun...I know you don't know me from a hole in the ground, but you have my sympathy. I've gone through the same kind of treatment from medical professionals because I'm a large woman.
The damnedest part of it is that a lot of the time, we big women are just as healthy as the skinny ones, in terms of blood pressure/cholesterol/etc. I have skinny friends who can't keep up with me in the gym -- I lift weights for 30 min and then do 45 min of cardio, and they're giving up *way* before I do.

I'm sorry that you had to go through that. And to everyone else who has mentioned tradgedies happening to them and the people they love -- you all also have my sympathy.
