Scientists discover Six Billion Trillion miles of nothing

US scientists have discovered six billion trillion miles of nothing, zilch, nada.

That's a six with how many zeros?

I don't understand what the big deal is? It's space. Whats the big suprise that there is just nothing somewhere out there?

What would really suprise me is if they found this out there.

Someone always has to make it political. We all know Bush is an idiot, I think we can drop it now.

and you more than likely assume the parallel postulate to be true. the fact that it IS space, void of matter, for six billion trillion miles means that this is a huge find.

That's a six with how many zeros?
21 zeros.

"6 billion trillion" could also be expressed as "6 sextillion."

6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles = 1,020,668,570 Light Years.

I guess a billion Light Years doesn't sound as impressive as 6 billion trillion miles.

And like has been said before... it's space. With more stars in the Universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches on all the earth it'd make sense that there's be a small pocket of nothingness here and there.

ok, how the fuck can they say 6billion trillion miles if it's a black hole of nothing. There is nothing to compare the distance too if there's not an end point right? why isnt it 5 billion or 7 billion. i think in this case they should just say infinaty?

Well, I wouldn't compare constantly cracking on how stupid he is to raping some girl and telling her to get over it. I was just saying that it would be nice to have a thread go through it's life cycle without a joke about how dumb Bush is. That's all.

Yep.. They pointed the Hubble scope toward what appeared to be empty space and kept the shutter open (as it were) for awhile..
When they got the pics back they found over 2000 galaxies in 1 frame...

six billion trillion miles
Mmmm.. This raises many questions - more about the human species - scientists in particular, than about space. Are they paid to waste time? Who pays them? Lunatics? Have they solved the world's food problem? Nope. Have they found alternative natural resources for power? Nope. Have they finished curing all diseases? Nope. Have they found a way to make pigs fly? Nope

Interesting "discovery" for a 3 second attention-getter in the bar - let's celebrate

Meanwhile... there is a nice parcel of six billion trillion miles of real estate - can we have offers please??

Probably because these scientists are thinking more than a few years into the future. They probably recognize that even if the worlds food and disease and fuel issues are solved, we still fucked this planet up beyond repair. So trying to find some other planet that's suitable for living might be something worth looking into.

Not to mention meteors and asteroids that might be headed our way that would make all the problems previously mentioned completely obsolete.

Good thing you aren't running this show.

You think they are looking a "few years into the future"??? Could never have guessed....

It may be more relevant to concentrate on the next few centuries on earth and be of practical use. The fact is we have not solved relatively simple problems in comparison - world food, disease and altenative energy etc. Maybe then they can start on how to not fuck up the planet? Duh??

Sure.. nothing wrong with knowledge-gathering and understanding more of the planetary system, but hell - we are so damned backward and dumb about this planet - the only 100% certain prospect is in screwing up/contaminating other planets. Until we can get a clue about managing ourselves - what point??

This could be very important to our understanding of the big bang and how the universe formed. Every now and then we have to take a different look at established science.

Sure.. nothing wrong with knowledge-gathering and understanding more of the planetary system, but hell - we are so damned backward and dumb about this planet - the only 100% certain prospect is in screwing up/contaminating other planets. Until we can get a clue about managing ourselves - what point??
if you don't see the value in humans exploring their existence in the universe, then it's people just like yourself that you speak of: backward and dumb.

read that.

at one time people really thought the world was flat and at the center of the universe. in fact, if you said otherwise, you'd be killed. if no one told you that the earth was round, you'd assume it was flat too.

it's a little more than 'knowledge-gathering'.

your post is so fucking stupid i want to cry. stop assuming 'we' includes myself in your own intellectual grouping.

Greywolf, you're the kind of person that should just shut their mouth and enjoy the ride as we hurl around on this planet through space. you think you know everything.
