I have a confession to make. I'm trying to get the white trash outta me. I still get cravings for hot dogs with beans and Kool-aid every once in a while. Macaroni and Cheese commercials make me salivate. I still laugh at fart jokes on television before I realize what I've done.

It's almost gone now and I can't help I was raised this way. I hate it, goddamnit!

How do I finally kill the beast within?

Lots of us pornographers now have nice cars, know what wine to order, and somehow acquired politeness in the presence of the "right" people. Yet, many of us grew up in lower middle class and lower class homes.

It's amazing how far poor immigrant familes have come in America.

My great grandfather left Italy forAmerica on April 15, 1921 on a ship called the Guglielmo Peirce. Great grandma was also on that ship. He was 34 and she was 36. Both were five foot three inches tall, with dark complexion, and dark hair. They carried with them their infant son, my grandfather, who was just 2 months old.

They were poor farmers back home. My great grandfather worked digging the ditches for the NY
subway. Poor migrant work. WOP work. Back-breaking work. My grandfather tells me stories of the depression. How he had to work as a young teen to help put enough food on the table every week for them to eat. He was sent to Oregon to work as part of a government program to help families in need. The money he earned was sent straight home to help mom and dad. Great Grandpa Delia moved the family to the US to have a chance in hell at a good life. It took a
long time for his vision to take hold.

Now, my generation of Delias is very well-educated and certainly understands the concept of "class". It took a while but Great Grandpa knew what he was doing.

I never said ya didn't have class cuz ya grew up poor, Colin. I just said it's somethin' you're born with.

My dad grew up VERY poor, the president of one the biggest North side gangs in Chicago...& he's ALL class. Money has nothing to do with it. I think it's being educated & a good up-bringing that have a lot to do w/ it.

Within your family/environment I mean. Thousht it was obvious, but I guess I should a' clarified. Plus, I said it's something you can't aquire from reading a book. Yes, class is something you're born with, but also it's part of your up-bringin. I'm not saying that if one was trailer trash that he can't have class, but if you're father's beatin' up wifey & she & your sister are out whorin' around town together...than, no...you're not gonna have an ounce of class.
