Lots of us pornographers now have nice cars, know what wine to order, and somehow acquired politeness in the presence of the "right" people. Yet, many of us grew up in lower middle class and lower class homes.

It's amazing how far poor immigrant familes have come in America.

My great grandfather left Italy forAmerica on April 15, 1921 on a ship called the Guglielmo Peirce. Great grandma was also on that ship. He was 34 and she was 36. Both were five foot three inches tall, with dark complexion, and dark hair. They carried with them their infant son, my grandfather, who was just 2 months old.

They were poor farmers back home. My great grandfather worked digging the ditches for the NY
subway. Poor migrant work. WOP work. Back-breaking work. My grandfather tells me stories of the depression. How he had to work as a young teen to help put enough food on the table every week for them to eat. He was sent to Oregon to work as part of a government program to help families in need. The money he earned was sent straight home to help mom and dad. Great Grandpa Delia moved the family to the US to have a chance in hell at a good life. It took a
long time for his vision to take hold.

Now, my generation of Delias is very well-educated and certainly understands the concept of "class". It took a while but Great Grandpa knew what he was doing.
