Yeah.. it's amazing how owning 50K in lenses makes a switchover a whole lot less tempting... especially when you know that if Nikon comes out with something wonderful... Canon won't be far behind... .and vice versa.

At the upper level, they all work well and deliver like they should. Find what you like and go with it.

I prefer Canon because they are a better value IMHO.
Compare the Nikon D80 with the Canon 400D. Nikon will feel more sturdy in your hands and some might argue that the glass is better but Canon is hella cheap and surpasses it in many features... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/

both are good, depends on your current lens inventory.

but if you need full frame (so you can use wide angle effectively for gonzo work) canon is the only choice (5d, 1ds, 1dsmkII) or discontinued kodak body with nikon lens.

I've had a Nikon for a couple years now, and I love it. The only problem I've had with it is that the lens doesn't hold up when the camera is dropped on the ground from about 6 ft.

If I had to start over, I would go for the new Canon's, but as said before, if you already have your equipment, you wouldn't switch over. So I stay on Nikon

I'm no expert but both seems to be really competitive between each other, I think it's only a matter of preference for some features at some point.

The lighting meassurment of the Canons is a bit better with the new digital ones as at Nikkon. Even this is not so much any more with the D200

I'm a Canon man but for most general uses either will probably do fine. Both are reputable and quality brands. Your question is not an easy one since it goes beyond technical preferences, some people are very passionate about their choice of brands...

Canon here!

I actually just bought a 20mm f/1.8 lens for it yesterday. I haven't used it much yet, but I already love it :-)

canon for me. we were using a 20D for our shoots, and i've just gotten a 30D. even the canon kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) does fine for porn - it may not be good enough to shoot a high end magazine cover, but pics look good at any size you would use on the net.

if you don't need the wide angle, the canon 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 is nice, inexpensive and small enough to be comfortable on a rebel and does fine on a 20D or 30D, too.

I went with a Nikon D50. I got the lower range of the market it but have since used the D200 and love it. The weight and feel fits my big hands perfectly. The canon just seems hard to hold.

ive tried the canon 400D and it looks too platic and thin, like a toy in my opinion - takes good photos tho - i love my D70s since it's as tough as a rock, you can smash it on the ground and it'll still work, on the other hand, shoot 5 hours straight and your arms will hurt a little... that's the trade off ;-)

Have never used Canon as I am invested in Nikon glass. When I was coming up all the photogs raved about Nikon glass so it was an obvious choice for me.

I have a Canon 20D, Rebel XT and S45 and love them all......but I hear a lot of people going with Nikon slr's these days......but I don't really think it matters they are all really good camera's but if you don't know what you are doing it won't matter

Oh but for small point and shoots....the canon's are awesome they are built like tanks and last forever.
