Photoshop Experts need your help inside

Been working on a very LARGE photoshop file .. so large in fact that Photoshop saved it as a .RAW file.

When I try to open the file(s) now ... all, 4 copies I made of it, they all open however look nothing like the original files. Grey and distorted.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

You should hire a new designer, someone that knows Print. Or maybe get rid of that old Tandy computer and get something new. If you work for someone, ask for a raise or tell that Bastard to get you a Mac Pro. That's my suggestion.

Actually the files are now all merged plus there is not sign of the original image, just looks like a tv screen that has no reception.

If it looks like a TV with no reception I would say your computer was on E when you last saved it, and now the file is goat-fuckt.

If it is saved as a RAW file your fucked. That means all the layers were merged somehow. Only a .psd will hold multiple layers. So if it isn't a .psd anymore, what you see is what you get.

Wow how big is the file that it did that?!
Are you absolutely sure you didn't actually move the drop down menu & select raw instead of psd?

Photoshop has limits when it comes to print but it should be able to handle a pretty large file. I'm curious how you reached its limit! Do you really need to make the entire thing in photoshop? ie, if its a sign for the side of a truck are there elements that can be done in AI or a vector based program? If you are trying to make text 5 metres wide in photoshop its a really messy way to try that ... you need a vector program that isn't trying to render millions of pixels every time you move something.

Apparently when a file reaches a size bigger than 30,000 pixels wide, Photoshop FORCES you to saw it as a .raw file. The file size is actually not that big, maybe a Gig, if that.

Unfortunately other than a little bit of text, the entire project is composed of graphics (not my choosing) so Illustrator wouldnt have made much of a difference.

No luck, but thanks for the suggestion. No biggie, will simply have to redo and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

that sucks ass.
is it possible to make it in 2 parts? ie up to 30 000 pixels then place a second document next to it? I've had to do that before and its fiddly as fuck. Or you can make up the individual graphics in ps & put them together with the text in illustrator?

I just opened ps7 on this old pc & it won't let me make a file bigger than 30000 pixels at all.

My only other suggestion would be to make it about 1/2 or 1/4 the size and let the printers scale it up. Use the print to pdf function to make the final file a pdf so it can be scaled up. Its for a truck sign so pixellation won't matter to a certain extent as its viewed from a distance.

Good luck ;-)

Thanks man! I have found a happy medium in retaining the size, but bumping down the resolution. Nothing more I can do.

how are you printing out the final work? you should check with the output device people because it is unlikely that you need anywhere near the resolution that would cause those problems, in fact it is generally desirable not to overdo the resolution
