Have any of you built your own HTPC?

I'm about to embark on this journey and from everything I've read, it looks like it's going to be a big pain in the ass.

I want dual internal OCUR cards but Maximum PC just published an article about them 3 days ago and it's not pretty.

At this point, the only specific things I have decided on are the enclosure and hard drives. The rest of the guts are up for suggestions.

Yeah, but mostly just for gaming. I've been waiting to do a full system for quit some time. Just never got around to it. Nows a good time though, hard drives are dirt cheap and there's finally some decent pc tuner cards available.

avsforum has a section for htpc's, head over there for far more info then you'd get here

At this point I have gone to Velocitymicro.com and customized a box with them. Now I will swap out the parts for the ones I want and build my own from there...I think....

Looks like I am going to build a quad processor machine for this.

Silverstone makes some pretty nice media cases. If you're not planning on doing any gaming the quad core is probably overkill. Most people like their htpc's to be pretty quit, and the small cases don't vent very well, alot also don't have room for the big video cards. So the opteron and xeon server chips are good for staying cool and quit.

Depends on the kind of system you want to build though.

I'm in the process of building my home theater room now, and then I will start on the HTPC. From all the reading I've done it really does sound like a pain in the ass. I'd like to be able to run my satellite through it and have the HTPC work as a tivo as well....

The Silverstone cases are nice but they don't have the width I want.

From what I've been reading...They recommend a quad proc. machine for the dual OCUR cards.

I'll probably go with AMD for this which is a big thing for me as I am a die hard Intel fan.
