Hey there, been getting back into working out as im a large human - ive been using that bowflex, the slow reps in and out make for a good workout in about 30 minutes to 1 hour if you go circuit training.

It hurts! Although I must admit I do prefer a real bench and some iron ore to do my bench press, it doesnt feel REAL with those cables.

Bowflex? I was thinking of getting one but I was afraid I would break that sumbitch.

I'm large too. I've always pumped iron but getting quality food has been a challenge in California. They spray everything with so many pesticides that you take one bite and your dog dies.

All the cheap Chinese food additives they use out here too are a hazard as you can now see with the pet illnesses and deaths.

I didn't know I could get so strong so fast again though at my age.

A few weeks ago a neighborhood bully made the mistake of pickin' a fight with me. Before I knew it I had lifted his ass off the ground with one arm. He weighed about 180lbs. I didn't know what had happened til he stopped stuggling and started screaming for me to let 'em go. Felt light as a feather guess I had adrenaline going.

btw they stopped their shit immediately and many folks in the neighborhood have congratulated me.

you have a hard time getting fresh produce in cal?

ca. has some of the best organic markets and growers in the country. When I lived there thats all I ate was organic

Ive been lifting for the last 3 months or so and have seen some really nice gains. Im trying to lean out now and trying to eat 6-7 times a day small meals and ramping up my cardio

I've thought about getting bowflex. I did the gym thing for many many years through the late 70's, 80's and into the mid to late 90's even.

I used to see commercials for the Weider "Crossbow", that looked like a badass machine too... but I don't see it being advertised any more. Anyone have an opinion on it or know about it? It looked to be superior in a lot of ways to the bowflex, and was better-priced as well.

As for breaking the bowflex, they are well-made. I don't see anyone breaking one, and their weight resistance can go quite high, up over 400 lbs in fact.

My first love is free weights though. Give me a good set of benches and an Olympic set with a decent set of dumbells and I'm happy.

I re-started lifting weights two and a half years ago after a decade of slacking and getting out of shape. I dropped 45 lbs of weight in the space of a year, mostly fat, and then put on a significant amount of muscle more recently. I really enjoy it. I look better, and feel great . Totally changed the quality of my life.

I'm all for free weights too. Yet now that I'm hitting the heavier weights again I use machines. Not enough brave people around to spot.

In order to compete you really have to work out crazy. I'm not going
to do the multi-meals a day thing. My system won't tolerate constant
eating. Too much insulin released. I eat 3 squares a day and that's pushing it.

Fresh produce now I can get because I got wise and realized I could get it easily. I still wash and watch it though.

Right now I'm going for power. I grow muscle fast and my new nutritional awareness should put me in top condition in a short while.

I love it when the girls in the neighborhood hoot at me and follow me around.

I don't feel good unless I have 18" arms minimum. Only natural bodybuilding though.

In order to compete you have to eat skinless chicken, broiled.

Sorry Joe Weider, I love my chicken skin. KFC BABY, KFC!!

I'm never gonna stop weight lifting. I knew as a kid from watching the adults who did and ate right and didn't drink and smoke or do drugs they're all lively 100 year old people now with girlfriends at that!

Just this past week a new study showing how the aging process reverses due to resistance training.

We knew that all along. Now if I can stick to the nutritional choices.

I will miss not going to the IHop

Weight are great but don;t forget to keep up the intensity...
Eating right is not a big deal for me because I can only stomach good clean food

But I will never stop training in one way of another... sometimes I take time off for my joints and tendons to recover ... in that time I do alot of ab/cardio training

I gained some muscle size over the winter along with just a little fat around my middle, so I am cutting now to get my lower abs to show again. Should have the full six pack back by Internext.

I've had a crossbow for about 5 years and I just broke the damn thing. Was doing an incline bench press and the backrest damn near folded in half. It's great for getting a full workout without the worry of working with free weights without a spotter, but I don't like the resistance curve on it. It gets harder the further into the exercise you go, so your muscles only get the real workout on the last half of the movement.

Another downside is the bars/bows wear out over time and get easier to bend. Never had a problem with my free weights getting lighter over time. They also seem to be quite sensitive to temperature changes getting much easier to bend the warmer it is. I've kept it so I can continue doing the exercises I'm not comfortable doing with free weights when alone, but my next machine will definitely be weight based.
