Getting an airline credit card and putting ALL our bills on it each month

This is long overdue....We are getting an airline VISA, Airtran specifically, and putting all our monthly bills on it...then paying it off each month

it will be nice to have all our bills paid by one check and on top of that getting tons if airline miles every month

anyone else do this?

yeah of course- i spend around 6-digits on traffic monthly, so definitely. Although i just switched cards from airline miles to the new Trio card from Advanta. 5% cash back on all online purchases. sweet.

The word is role, not roll. The true person behind the blog you claim as yours would know that.

I've been doing this for years with my American Express card for the membership rewards points. I set it to pay my bills automatically and once a month I get online and pay my AmEx off through my bank account. So far I have used points for a week stay at the MGM Grand in Vegas and I have a shit load for another trip.

I think you are the first to ever think of this Jace, amazing if I say, I do it but do not use it for airline tickets because I never get what I want, there are probably 50 different programs you can use to get all kinds of shit though

find two credit card companies that allow you to transfer balances each month for free and still accrue points. Been doing that for years and get free magazines, gifts, gift cards, etc.

I have NEVER had a credit card in my life...never saw a reason for one...cash is what I have ALWAYS dealt in

but with all the free shit you can get these days it just makes more sense to pay for shit like bills with a card and get free flights and shit out of it

Are you able to pay most bills with a credit card? Most of my bills won't allow me to unfortunately. I was looking for a way around it, as it would be awesome if I could find a way to pay my mortgage with an amex. But I guess that would be too easy

I have been doing some research with my bill, and the only ones so far I found that won't let me is water and electric...but there HAS to be a way around it, LOL

I'm all about getting miles.

PLUS, depending on the carrier, some of them will give you even more miles per dollar spent if you buy a ticket with the card.

I thought I was going to be able to shoot for Uniteds 1k status this year, but now it's looking like I'm not going to be able to do it. :-( There is always 2008.

We recently moved to an airlines visa card as well the past few months and put pretty much everything on it that we would normally write checks for. Keeps the checkbook easier to keep updated and only writing once check. Card gets paid off at the end of the month every month

Yep...been doing that since the beginning of this year. Upgraded to an Altitude Platinum Amex/Mastercard combo. I don't even carry cash anymore.
I get 1 point for every dollar on the Mastercard, 2 points for every dollar on the Amex.

AmEx has been hounding me about upgrading from Gold to Platinum. Anyone see a reason to switch all expenses to AmEx Platinum as opposed to my banks Visa? Visa is a standard rewards program really.

I have an airline creditcard, however I don't put all my bills to it. I just use it for groceryshopping and whatnot. Then of course pay it off each month.

I've been earning a free roundtrip for 2 to Hawaii each of the last four years with my Hawaiian Airlines Platinum card. I also have a GM Platinum card that earns me 3% off a new GM vehicle purchase. Just bought a GMC Acadia and used $2400 in accrued earnings off the vehicle price. I put everything on the cards that I possibly can and pay off the balances monthly. It frees up cash flow and allows me to keep more money at longer periods of time in my online brokerage account thus earning me more interest.

Just curious Jace, when you say you have never had a credit card, how do you make purchases online, things such as hosting, travel, etc...? I'm guessing you use your debit card for everything.

Wiretransfers also work, although they take more time...

True, I realize there are alternatives to paying for things, however, they usually come with greater fees and at a greater inconvenience. I do think though that if more people didn't have credit cards there would be a lot more fiscally responsible people.

i have american express blue which i think is the best for rewards. they pay really good rates as long as you spend at least 6k a year on the card. and they pay a lot extra for home improvement places like home depot and grocery stores. i think my cash back is in the range of about 2-4%

AirTran used to be called ValueJet

They changed thier name after one of thier planes (flight 592) had an unapproved oxygen tank explode during flight... the plane crashed into the Everglades, and alligators were eating the remains of passengers.

Okay here is one way you can get around it. I was doing it for awhile to get my power bill paid (which at the time was like $600/mo).

Goto your local post office and ask for the exact amount of your electric bill in the form of a money order. When they ask how you want to pay, say by credit card/debit card. Use that to pay for the money order and you got yourself air miles for paying your electric/water.

The cost of the money order from the USPS is going to be about $0.95. The only downside is you have to physically walk into the USPS Post Office each month. But it was worth it for me because I was getting 1200 points each month from the $600 I was sending on my electric bill.

Give it a try, haven't done it since I moved out of the USA but I'm sure it will still work for you!

Jim
