Is there money you'll leave lying on the table?

For years, most marketing types (including me) in this industry have protested people leaving money on the table...

"Hey, if you don't so X, then you're leaving money on the table..."

It's a valid point and can be true, but is there some money you'll leave on the table and not worry about?

I have a real personal issue with promoting young teens that look way under age. Again, my own personal line in the sand. I'm not talking about the "she turned 18 yesterday" stuff, but the sites that go out of their way to make them look like 12 and 13 year olds. That's money, I'll personally leave on the table and not lose sleep over.

Where is your line on this? Is it about a specific type of content or maybe a certain marketing method?

Be sure not to leave any money on the table this Thursday when Adult Paymaster pays $40 per free trial signup

Nothing controversial or difficult about it.

There's alot of other stuff to promote. If you don't want to join the pedo club you dont' have too. There is plenty of things that convert better and will keep you busy.

Lots of it. There are many things I wouldn't/won't promote. Just a personal thing for me and since my money is personally mine, I don't see a problem with it

I do it all the time.

I dont promote sites that have pop hells.
I dont promote ultra teeny looking sites.
I dont promote sites that insult the intelligence of my surfers (fake dicks, photoshopped asses, etc.)

Totally agreed

I'm not here to tell anyone else how to make money or how to run their business. It's just money I'm comfortable leaving lying on the table...

Just looking to see what others think and what they will and won't promote.

Same here sire.

For the most part I only promote legit sites. Also those I've checked out, or know something about. I do not promote, or recommend any site I would not like myself.

There are plenty things which are easy to "leave money on the table" ....

There are potential areas of the adult biz that *may* be legal, others not - it is down to a choice on whether to publish. Webmasters are legally responsible for every web page they publish in the same way a magazine editor is liable on behalf of a publisher in print media.

There is also an aspect as to whether you care to stand in front of a jury and justify whatever. In some instances, this may be considered valid, - in others there is prob no way in hell you'd want to defend it, whether it is technically legal or not.

Yet another aspect is in being "professional" and responsible. The adult entertainment biz is exactly that, a business. Each business has a choice in the product they trade/promote.

Automatically disqualified would be anything that defrauds the public (tho it may be technically legal), extreme activity such as scat, torture, pissing, cp etc, the potrayal of models as kids or the "pedo entertainment industry" - the list could be endless. It depends on what creative angles idiots in this business can think up to try and dance around laws before they hit the court steps.

The adult industry is massive in it's "spectrum" of possibilities - there are far more legitimate ways to take that money from the table than anyone could possibly cover, - so not really a need to even go to extremes.

Very good points for sure and the 'sitting in front of a jury' scenario is what I use - just that the jury is my kids. If I won't be able to explain my decisions - I just won't do it.

For sure.

I never really thought about it before, but I reckon my acid test is my girlfriend of 3 years.

If it's not something I feel I could convince her to see the light on, then it's certainly not something for me. It's important to maintain confidence with those that you love above most other pursuits in life, I think.

But, in the event that a loved-one might not give you the best direction on a matter, the "jury test" is probably an intelligent way to go.

Both.

A lot of things, such as anal, tits, and so forth are of no interest to me personally. However, I think we all truly know what is a good value for the money in quality, content, and niches.

So I only recommend, link to, promote things I believe are a good value (even things of no interest to me) if I think it's a certain caliber. Just because I have no interest in it, doesn't mean I do not know the difference in complete shit reruns of the same overexposed material, versus something unique, or with a vast archive, and such.

Also sites not affiliated with the black arts... such as installers, dialers, pop up hells, no back button, among others.

Basically things that piss off people.

Thanks for elaborating

It's always interesting to hear other views and whether they are quality or niche specific issues.

I've got a niche-specific one for you.

There was a thread awhile back entitled "There is no place in adult for the 'teen' keyword" or something like that. I dunno about that, but in the BDSM niche I have a similar feeling about the words "abuse" or "abused".

I can sell some pretty hard core BDSM, but when I see it marketed under titles like "Spanked and Abused" or "Slut Abuse" or whatever, I can't run away fast enough. Sure, I could sell those sites, but I don't want that money. Don't need it, don't need the bad karma that comes with it, don't want to worry about looking a jury in the eye while my lawyer tries to say "all in good fun between consenting adults" with a straight face.

Sure, I'll walk away from that money and leave it on the table. Why not? As the kids these days say, I wouldn't touch it with somebody else's dick.

'Leaving money on the table' means leaving something else for the other party in the transaction. It can also mean selling too cheap.

What you describe above is avoiding excessive risk.
