Can't see files on server in ftp when using dsl fixed ip, help

I have the weirdest problem, my dsl provider gave me 5 separate ip's. Whenever I assign myself a "public fixed ip" under WAN IP MAPPING in the admin of my 2wire router I'm not able to see all the folders on my server when I log into ftp. It's all blank! I mean there's nothing there when I log in ftp, no folders at all.

And when I change the setting back to (router wan ip address) which is the default I can see all the folders fine.

Why would having a fixed public ip affect my ability to see folders already uploaded to my server in ftp?

Also, I turned off the firewall protection and it still doesn't work. I also tried enabling and disabling passive mode in ftp.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

No, I meant that I can't see the files at all when using the given fixed ip and am trying to figure out how to resolve it. I can't figure out why I can't see the files and how to be able to view them again.

Try using a different ftp client that might give you a more verbose output as to the login process and any possible errors.

If you arent seeing any files at all, how do you know you are even logged in?

In terms of IPs being the issue, maybe there is a dns lookup on all logins and if that fails or encounters issues the access is blocked.

Thats more of a guess, but it would better if you had a text output of the login process from the FTP client that you could paste.

I'll try.. I actually forgot my passwords so I have to look for that right now..

When I'm logging in though I don't see any error messages on the output.. it says

user(my useername) logged in
250 cwd command successful
...domains/mydomains/path-to-folder/ is current directory
PASV
227 entering pasv mode
LIST

that's the same thing that usually shows when I log in and it shows that I'm inside the correct directory. That's why I think I'm logged in.

I'll try with a different ftp client right now and also ask my host if there is a dns lookup on all logins.. Thanks.

try turning off PASV mode perhaps? any chance you can try to use a real IP address as ftp address instead of a domain name..?
