this is what everyone should focus on, it is only going to get worse, and as it gets worse everyones incomes will go down...there is not one thing anyone can say to dispute that

the issue I have is, what do we do for the long term instead of the short term?

Yep - I have zero problem with Lars personally. Business is business. Ethics are ethics and and the only similarity really is that both are immutable and how one conducts themselves to either is a matter of choice.

The only thing you are right about is that how one conducts oneself - and business is just as much a reflection of someone as any other activity - is a matter of choice.

There is a long list of reasons why bad ethics are bad business, but they are irrelevant: that choice thing again. However, there remains the practical impact those choices have on the business of others and therefore the reality that it is impossible to contemplate acting in an unethical and/or unprofessional manner, without being contemptuous - consciously or not really makes no difference - of others.

I don't care whether someone hijacks my traffic or regularly turns up late for appointments. Either way he is declaring that I am someone who is not worth treating with basic courtesy and honesty. Do I put my self-respect in the toilet and accept that? That again is a matter of choice isn't it?

probably have to organize a defense group and get a sufficient legal fund together... and then try to get help from peers in the industry that never comes... then fight a long expensive battle and... hey wait... this is starting to sound like acacia... :helpme

The software people did that and I dont think it would be a long battle like acacia. On no level are they in the right. Also if we went after these things as a group , we are also protecting kids from porn because this is where most of them get it from, not pay sites. its a good pr thing

I am neither right or wrong about anything in that post - it is simply my opinion (which was essentially "no comment" until the facts are in").

I think bad ethics are bad business... but I can't tell that to anyone who made millions on something that is clearly unethical. All I have to prove the point though is that in my experience all the businesses in our industry making poor ethical choices seem to face growing problems that sooner or later consume them as fast as the Enron indictments were served.

My experience is that any legal battle is bound to be long and costly no matter how right you are and how sure you are of prevailing.

I can see that but doesnt it matter also if the other side has treasure chest to go around and around in court. I doubt every BT site has a huge war chest.

You people see what you want to see. You must have missed the SEVERAL threads Lars started about me during the same time. He threw a lot at me as well. Not just him, there was at least 4 or 5 threads where his entire staff was attacking me. Problem was he had to make up shit about me, I was just replying to his nonsense.

I replied to his bullshit. period. If he posted a lot of bullshit I made a lot of replies. As simple as that. If he would have never posted I might have made a couple posts about him at most and left it at that. If you think I am lieing look at how many posts I made about the other people using zango, none of them wished to engage me, provoke me, lie to me, insult me, or attack me, so that was left at that. But it is all a big crusade, blah blah, i woke up one morning said, what do i want to do with my life, ah thats it, pick an innocent Lars and go on a crusade against him. I swear I think my carpet has more intelligence than some of you people.

You say " well... i don' know what decissions Lars has made, he might have had nothing to do with AFF using zango or bit torrents etc..". True we don't know if he was the one that made the decission to use zango, but he certaintly supported it. He supported it vigerously. To me when you support something to that extent and you are a owner of the company (who profits off of those actions) you are just as guilty as the person whos idea it was to do it in the first place. Lets see, you support it, profit from it, defend it.......but you weren't the one orginally to decide to do it.... you still an " good guy" then... :upsidedow

I doubt any of them, except for the real big ones like piratebay would even respond to a lawsuit. Can't you win a decission, likely unopposed, and get their hosting killed ? It's a question. I am not familar that much with this part of the law.

Not denying that at all but I really only spent a small amount of time studying the situation at the beginning and I don't have any idea what went back and forth between you and lars so i can't offer an opinion there.

That is certainly one goal we have set for ourselves that will be good for the short and long term hopefully.

With datinggold's stance on spyware, you'd think it would be similar for Torrent sites.. Or perhaps they don't know who's account it is? Well gotta get traffic from somewhere. Thanks Aussie, we are working on them too. It's a slow process :(

My "gotta get traffic from somewhere" comment is tongue-in-cheek in case nobody figured that out :P

Your entire post was great, but I found this last part particularly well-written.

:thumbsup
