I know what an absolute logistical nightmare it is trying to stay on top of where affiliate tracking is coming in, the tricks affiliates play to mask where the traffic's really sourced from and all the other little goodies that go on behind the scenes and I'm responsible for far less then 300,000 affiliates (I think that's what the interview said AFF has?). So no I don't think that they can at all times know where the traffic is coming from. Letting it continue once you know about it is a different story altogether.

And windbag is far from name calling on the GFY scale, you should have thicker skin then that, Tony.

Its annoying and its my work that this happens with. Be it whole scenes on BT or passwords traded, that hurts my bottom line. Im sorry a site like pirate bay must bring mountains of traffic I highly doubt no one is watching that. Also its not like one isolated incident, every time I find something is stolen content or password, there is that fucking AFF banner. I dont think im talking out of left field on this.

So instead of getting aggro about it on a message board (Or while you do) build a list, inform the content owners, get DMCAs in on what you own, contact the affiliate programs. Believe it or not, we can make a dint in the ocean that is content piracy, but we can't rid the world of it unfortunately.

If a group wants to get together to do this, I will be the first volunteer.:thumbsup :thumbsup

I'm sure that Homegrown Video would be down since this affects us as much as anyone.

You've been around long enough to know that not even 10% of those affiliates are active.

As for tracking, it's not necessary. The links have been stuck in Lars' and other AFF employees faces many times. And they've gone ignored each and every time.

Also, tracking is not as complex as you make it sound. For starters, not one of these sites make any attempt to disguise their source of traffic. Most of them use hosted tools from AFF, in fact. Secondly, it would not be tough to examine the top 25 affiliates and check their sources. It would take one person two days tops to do this. AFF has 300+ employees, I'm sure they can spare one for the day. Fact is, they don't give a fuck. As long as the sales roll in, they turn a blind eye.

I will contact you this week, your right arguing on this board is a waste of time and energy that could be used better to fight this.

Lets remember we must unite against the common enemy.

"What, the Judean Peoples Front?"

"No the Romans!"

I posted #6 didn't make any reference to zango. Your wife posts #12 and brings it up and " turns the conversation in that dirrection" implying that the company using zango is bad but the owner of the company can still be good. I've argued that point since.

Apparently you already made your mind up about me, but thats fine. Please carry on with your stand. I am sure AFF will lose sleep tonight because you called what they did " very uncool".

I was dragged into the conversation by someone else, third post. Doesn't matter though, apparently the thread served it's TRUE purpose, AFF is dealing with it. Thanks guys. :)

Woah im surprised, AFF and doing something wrong, no way!

AFF is dealing with it? mmhmm, sure they are.

AFF has been notified so many times of flagrant abuse, and the only time they even make an appearance of taking action is when it hits the boards, but even then, they usually choose to ignore the thread and just bump their bot laiden contest threads.

You posted earlier about how folks should take these issues up with the sponsors themselves. I would have to disagree with that. I have contacted several sponsors about certain issues over the years, and if a reply is even offered, it is usually just the standard lip service and nothing changes.

Contacted one sponsor a couple years ago about his server being hacked. They told me I had spyware and wouldn't continue the discussion until I threatened to go to the boards.

I guess in some companies defense, they have to deal with a lot of issues from folks they have never heard from. Unless the 'whiner' is a big player, most complaints/inquiries go unanswered. Which is why taking it to the boards is usually more powerful than direct complaints.

At least when taken to the boards, it gives other affiliates the chance to see the true colors of certain programs.

This is just a quick trivia question since I am not interested in exacerbating this stuff any further.

What do CE and AFF have in common?

Time is ticking and we need a winner... remember, an all expense paid trip which can be written off is yours to Curacao where you will be able to open your very own slush fund account and enjoy the luxury of offshore banking!

Far-L 04-16-2007 01:26 PM

Soon enough, the stars will align, Jupiter will come into close orbit and the writings will become clear. Once these celestial events transpire, you will have your wish for drama.

everyone is blaiming lars when it's the majority owner of the company they should be noting for his consistent lack of moralistic advertising placement. i bet lars would drop all those ads in a flash if he could.

Yes, because unlike the majority owner, Lars doesn't like money at all. :)

Did Andrew make him act like an asshole on GFY too ?

When will it end.. Sexsearch made him do it, no, no, Andrew made him do it. At least Andrew is more believable. i like to think Lars went to him and asked him to stop, and he said no, but that doesn't excuse lars for defending it here. He could have just declinded and left it at that.

Yep, but that is why someone coined the phrase about laying down next to the dog with fleas.

I do have an idea about what Lars might be going through though... when we first hooked with CE back in the day there were tons of people who hated us and would not talk to us because of some brouhaha with CEN that had absolutely nothing to do with us.

For what it is worth, AFF did take everything down as soon as we asked. We are taking action on this. We are going after the roots though and here AFF did the right thing as far as we are concerned.

To anyone getting ripped off though in this same way, talk to an attorney because this is the kind of thing that makes them salivate and think about things like working on contingency...:winkwink:
