A question of morality.

Hypothetically speaking.......

Let's pretend that you are a photographer and you have been informed that another photographer has made attempts to recruit and shoot under age models....even going so far as to offer to make fake ID's for the model.

Now let's pretend that this photographer is in the same town you are in and shoots for some of the same clients that you shoot for...Making him a direct competitor.

Would you mind your own business or would you mention this to the common clients? On one hand you would be doing the right thing out of concern for your clients but on the other hand....Would you want people to think you were making shit up to get rid of the competition?

One more "hypothetical" thing.....

What if this particular photographer also has a history of sexually assaulting models and has changed his name and company names multiple times over the years to hide who he really is?

Gee...I'm sure glad I don't have to make any kind of decisions like this...But what if?

What would you do?

I would leak it to somebody else who likes the attention of drama.

Problem gets brought to light. You stay out of it.

Thats what politicians do. It works.

I hypothetically had a conversationa bout this recently...

that is exaclty what gives this industry a bad name and SHOULD be stopped...

Bottom line...and you should be more affeared in your own town , it hurts your business at a more intimate level. when theres a big finger over head, you fit there too...

said fuckhead is hiding his actions by changing identities multiple times..

i would hypothetically shut that fucker down...

Hypothetically .. if you know your information is accurate then i would think it would be your responsibility to let your clients know what he's up to. This Photographer is putting everyone at risk with behavior like that.

I agree with Mike on this and I would simply let it be known that this has been brought to your attention from multiple models and not just 1 or 2. This guy is obviously scum and to sexually abuse (if this is the case) the models is just wrong and something NEEDS to be done.

Hypothetically I wish you luck on this and know that you will do the right thing Aaron.

BTW, Mike it was nice hanging out with you in Phoenix, next time we need to do dinner and have something besides sushi lol

This is not about the clients, this should be reported to the police, period. If you tell his clients, he might lose some business, but he will get away with a c r i m e

Aaron,

If he was in my town or for that matter anywhere I would contact the police.

Anything to do with underage crap is the worst...

Fuck it, if you can prove / show it, call the Pdx police, Multnomah county sherrifs office, OSP, FBI, etc, etc.

It will stop him or her from abusing minors and also looks good for our industry when we report these things.

I think it's safer to go to the authorities, especially if you have no proof. If you defame him with no proof, he could sue you out of the water. It's a fairly serious allegation. I think letting the police know of your suspicions will warrant an investigation and hopefully put the guy behind bars where he belongs.

Well, you know my stance is always to do the right thing. Putting a stop to a child pornographer/assaulter is definitely the right thing to do.

However, someone's who's changed names and company identities that frequently in the past won't hesitate for a moment to do it again.

So that leaves you with three options.
1. Say something and watch him vanish as he restarts fresh somewhere else under a new name.
2. Say nothing since he'll likely just do the second half of #1.
3. Find out what it takes, and do what it takes to make sure that he is put to a permanent stop so that there will be no more resurfacing of any kind.

How many adult photographers could there be in Portland that have the same clients as you?

Hypothetically, it appears that person is probably now outed to your clients...

You contact the authorities. Not hard to think about and it has nothing to do with competitor or not. It has to do with taking advantage of underage people which what most people in this industry stand for.
It's people like that guy who give the rest of us a bad name because they only care about money.
People are people and no matter what no one underage should be taken advantage of.

And there are a few of us who shoot for some of the same clients here.

What would you do?

I would hope you would do the right thing. This photographer is an example of why we have all these restrictions now. There are plenty of models 18 and over, no need to recruit minors. I would inform the common clients. You would be saving them a lot of trouble in the long run. This is not that Mike Smith guy is it?

I would have a flunky do the reporting and such. Possibly even a flunky of a flunky. That way there is less likely to be any backwash your way from the press/authorities.

I would do my best to get the guy shut down.

******how do you have proof of this? any proof you have would be good enough for the cops . . . if he has open warrants . . just drop a dime

Now let's pretend that this photographer is in the same town you are in and shoots for some of the same clients that you shoot for...Making him a direct competitor.

***in my experience the clients do not care about the behaviors of the photographers in any way . . . we all sign agreements that we will not give any 'inappropriate material' to the clients . . any false ID's would bounce right back on the shooter in court.

Let's pretend that you are a photographer and you have been informed that another photographer has made attempts to recruit and shoot under age models....even going so far as to offer to make fake ID's for the model.

**** the underage models should report the guy to the heat and you can just move on to something else.

Would you mind your own business or would you mention this to the common clients? On one hand you would be doing the right thing out of concern for your clients but on the other hand....Would you want people to think you were making shit up to get rid of the competition?

**** I express my concern for my clients by delivering the very best product I can deliver, on time . . I leave other shooters and their relationships to the clients alone . .

Either get proof, or go to the police, expressing your concerns so that they may go about getting proof.

Without proof, you have nothing substantial - in any regard.

Without proof, exposing someone of such a thing based on circumstance is hardly just, moral, or sensible.

if you really have the proof that he's doing something illegal, then i think you should not be hesitant to report it to the police and to other concerns...

Hypothetically, if said dude is someone that can be recognized and perhaps even photographed? I think there are a lot of hypothetical options and I agree with Mike Vega fully.

btw...Hi Aaron
