What was the justification behind the gambling ban?

I dont quite understand how the ban is not ridiculously unconstitutional

Why is it legal to visit your nearest casino to gamble - but not online? Why can you not spend your hard earned money where you please?

their logic is that gambling is only legal in this country in Vegas, Atlantic city and on Indian land. So you sitting in your house gambling online means that you are gambling somewhere where the highly paid lobbyists and bought and paid for senator and congressman have decided you cannot so they are banning it.

Do you not realize that the government clearly knows what is better for you than you do?

Not getting taxes for it was probably the main reason.

cause the online casino is more than likely not american, so the money is going to another country not your "local"....states lose tax money and so on and so forth (not to mention the politicians that are on the payroll)....least thats how i look at it......

i think it is cheesy too, but i understand their worries about billions going overseas.....they can't really monitor and controll the online casino's so there is no real oversight; so they are both keeping the money "in country" and helping ensure you that you are playing on a fair playing field (or as level as it can be, the house always wins) by trying to make you play in american casino's....Again i think it is lame but I also think that online casino's or epass and the other online banking spiels should set it up so states get taxes from the deposits they would normally get if it were a casino in the states....

I dont think it has anything to do with a 'fair playing field' - the online casinos that are the most userfriendly and legit will be the most successful. I guess this is purely for selfish tax reasons

The US is being sued in the WTO. It is against a lot of free trade laws to ban online gaming. I can post a shit load of links if you want more info on the court case.

Then don't worry about our Constitution until you read it. There is no mention of online gambling to be found in the Bill of Rights or any other amendment.
