Anyone good with Windows Server 03 and terminal services?
I have an HP server with Windows Server 2003 on it for the office, We use Terminal services and run 5 computers as thin clients, and have 5 computers that run a remote desktop with terminal services.
And 6 computers that just use it as a data server. The machine is a dual xeon dual core 3.0 with 3 gb of ram, 15k rpm drives. My questions are, I just ordered 10 copies of Office 07 when it ships. But there are 16 users, only 10 will be using the office though, this wont cause problems will it? This will be my first software install without the guys that helped set everything up. So I am not sure if it even installs just like it would on a normal desktop. I also need some kind of log program that will log what programs are being ran, for how long, and how long they are idle in the program. I would also like to have 3 of the remote user names to ONLY have access durring specific hours, I am not sure how to do this though. I have a million other questions, but google has been pretty helpful. I should probably pick up a book too. Not sure if we will be going to server 07 when its out either, not sure if its worth it.

You might want to look into a new feature of vista server called "remote programs"

Office can't be installed on TS in the normal manner. It has to be installed with the office admin pack in TS mode.
TS and Office both license the client to the user, not as a generic group. TS 2000 used to do this but not 2003. For the logging you would need a logging application for ease of use. Windows itself can do it but it doesn't make reports, is diffucult to setup, and isn't intuitive at all. It isn't capable of logging idle time or program idle time. Start and stop of an application would require additional script programing to do the calculations and then more for report generation. Specific hour blocking is easy. |

Windows support is what my company does. Now I'm branching out into web site management for a couple of interested customers of mine.

Man this Server stuff is a pain.
With the remote desktop I did something to make the remote desktop a window rather then look like my desktop with a small bar at the top, and now I have to scroll down to see the start menu even. I dont know how to make it go back. I have the HP system managment homepage thing, but I dont know what the user/pass is to see it, and I dont know where to give users access to it. I would like to see if this page can show me who is on the server and doing what, and how much load is on the server too. I tried to find a logging program, but I cant seem to find one that does much of anything. And I can find even less information on specific hour blocking. Any help would be great.
