I think if you really wanted to, you could kill a dog. I know their jaws are very strong but if you went for the neck to either choke or break it, most men could win that fight.

atleast he did the right thing if he didn't kick that pit in the stomach it probably wouldn't have let go and given him the chance to get his hand out of it's jaws.

he got lucky thats for sure

Neither one, in the Fark thread someone from the neighborhood told the true story. The old man was a prick who thought he ran the neighborhood, he grabbed up someone's dog (not a pit) which was running loose, and the dog bit him on the finger when he grabbed it's collar and he went apeshit.

Reporters will stretch the truth completely out of recognition if they can find a way to fit the words 'Pit Bull' in the headline.

Joe Hurley is a UFC fighter who got attacked and ripped up by a Pit. The dog went thru him like wet tissue paper. No man beats a Pit or any large dog in hand to hand combat, although I'm sure there will be at least ten rambos in this thread who will claim they have. The only chance you have is if it has a collar on and you can hold him down.

A dogs skull is much thicker than a human. Punching a dog in the head would result in breaking your hand long before hurting the dog.

A dog can move much, much, much faster than you can. It's said for every one action you take, for instance kicking, a dog can bite you between 5 and 10 times.

A large dog like Sheppard, Rottweiler or Doberman has so much strength in it's jaw you would never be able to pry it off you.

A dog can turn it's head and neck 180 degrees to bite you.

Once in a blue man a man will come out on top against a large dog, but 99.9% of the time an unarmed man will be no match for a large dog attack.

I actually have a friend that trains Sheppards for the Police in the states. He'll let anyone take a shot at a dog anytime they want. To date nobody has ever tried without padding and nobody has ever come out on top.

You actually CAN rear naked choke a dog, the problem of course is getting in position behind it. Impossible against a dog facing you. The only time it's really useful is to pull a dog off another person.

actually beating a dog is fairly easy.
you just have to know how to do it.

most dogs are jumpers and will go for something high...your face neck etc...if it is really on..and when a dog launches at you it is....you give up your arm..and let them bite it.

as they sink their teeth in you make sure you get really close to them and bring up your knee...as you hit the ground you should be smashing your knee right through their chest....dogs are weak..any grown male can do this.

they dog will be dead on the spot and you will have some bite marks on your arm...but you will not be dead...and your arm will not be ripped to shreds

practice it in your mind a few times and you will be ready should it ever happen

I have to disagree with those that say a man has no chance against a dog. The only reason that would be is if the dog hit a major artery (or got you by the throat) right away. Fear is what kicks mans ass in those situations.

A full grown man that keeps his head can take on any dog. Poke its eyes out, crush its wind pipe etc.

People panic when getting bitten, but all you have to do is rip the dogs eyes out, while it is biting you. It will quickly let go, cry, and run away.

Really, no you can't. I don't think you have any idea how fast an actual attacking dog is and how high a tolerance for pain they have. Proffesional dog trainers would disagree with you.

I have a 140 pound Rottweiler who is as tall as me when he stands on his back feet. If he pounced on you, there's next to no way you'd be able to brace yourself against that weight, you would be going down.

As for offering your arm up, there's no guarantee a dog will take that bait. Police dogs, for isntance, are trained not to. Police dogs actually are taught more to fight than just attack. If you for instance start punching them with one hand, they will release their grip on whatever they have and attack the hand you are trying to hit them with.

Further more, a large domestic dog can have some 320+ pounds of biting force. That's enough to crush most people's fore arms.

No, I have 3 Rottweilers and I've worked with many German and Belgium Sheppards that have been trained for police duty.

I don't live in fear of my dogs at all. My dogs are well adjusted, nice animals that are not going to just attack somebody randomly.

I do have a healthy respect for what they can do, having tried to break up a fight between two smaller female rottweilers and ending up with my hand burried in one of their jaws.

Oh, I'm not saying dogs are perfect predators that men must fear. There's plenty of ways to diffuse or avoid a dog attack in the first place. On top of that, if you can get ahold of a weapon of some sort, then you have a much better chance.

I'm just saying in a straight up one on one fight with a large dog, your odds are very, very poor.

the lie down and die....it will save the world from your cynicism

notice i said as you are going to the ground?

you need to be prepared for it...and make it happen...as you go down you knee goes into their gut, preferably upper rib cage...you land on top of the dog and it should be ok.

im not claiming this is easy...but seems better then your advice so far..i mean arent you some kind of ninja...you and dig420 are superstar fighters, you claim it a million times a day on the board...but you have no advice for how to stop an attacking dog?

I think I've made maybe less than a dozen posts about fight training. I'm no ninja, but I do train pretty much 6 days a week with weights, cardio and varius martial arts.

I'm not saying it's impossible to do what you're saying, I'm just saying it's very unlikely you're be able to do it. That's the reality of it.

I never used to think a dog would be that tough, having rough housed with large dogs an awful lot. That is until I actually worked with some dogs being trained for the police. Even a Belgium Sheppard, no more than 70 pounds is a fearsome opponent and a large German Sheppard or Rottweiler is just a nightmare. The speed a dog moves at when it's actualy attacking is so more more freightening than when a dog plays. You really have to experience it to appreciate the different.

If you're involved in a large dog attack, there are some things you can do. Try to stay upright and use your height as an advantage. If you have or can get a stick, briefcase, or anything of that nature position it between yourself and the dog, If at all possible, retreat into, behind, on top of or under something. If the dog gets a hold of you, gouging for the eyes and punching or kicking behind the rib cage, between the back legs may be able to produce some damage but in reality you're in a tough situation.

Your average guy (everyone here) is pretty much fucked against a large well trained or abused until it's crazy dog.

Here's a cool video showing a bite force test done with a Rottweiler, German Sheppard and a Pittbull. The Rottweiler comes out as the strongest, by far. Bear in mind these dogs are trained to bite and hold on to protective gear on the arm and not try to kill you.

Did no one pay attention when I told you Joe Hurley got fucked up like he was NOTHING by a Pit?

Phoenix I hate to disabuse you of your Kung Fu fantasies. If a large fighting dog attacks you with the intent to kill you and you have no weapons and nowhere to hide, you're going to DIE. Period.

Even Ninjas.

I heard that if a dog is attacking you and has a grip on you, the best thing to do is stick your finger in it's ass. He will then release you.
